Private bus owners on strike from Tuesday

Thiruvananthapuram: Private bus owners, led by the Joint Bus Owners’ Strike Committee, will go on an indefinite strike from Tuesday. Bus owners are protesting an increase in student bus fares and tax exemption.

The strike is demanding that the government take an immediate decision on the demands raised by the bus owners. The minimum charge should be Rs 12 and Rs 1 per km should be increased. Bus owners are also demanding an increase in student concession rates.

Transport Minister Antony Raju had said that the hike in bus fares was necessary but that a final decision on the matter would be taken with the Chief Minister. The reason for the current provocation is the delay in this decision.
