Thiruvananthapuram: The government has intervened in the market amid rising vegetable prices in the state. ‘Tomato carts’ will be launched from today to control inflation. Tomatoes will be provided at Rs. 50 per kg through 28 carts in two districts. Other vegetables are also available at cheaper prices. It is open from 7.30 am to 7.30 pm.

Agriculture Minister P Prasad inaugurated the Tomato Carts project in Thiruvananthapuram. The Department of Agriculture has taken steps to procure and distribute tomatoes and other vegetables from various parts of Kerala, neighboring states, and North Indian states.

About 40 tonnes of vegetables are procured daily from other states and sold through Horticorp’s retail outlets. 170 tons of vegetables are procured and sold locally through VFPCK. The Minister informed that 1937 marketing centers are functioning in the state under the leadership of the Department of Agriculture.
