Amravati is now the permanent capital; Andhra Pradesh no longer has three capitals

Amravati: Andhra Pradesh has only one capital. The bill fixing the three capitals was repealed.Amravati will now be the capital of Andhra Pradesh. The Jaganmohan Reddy government has withdrawn a bill to set up three capitals. The decision was taken at the cabinet meeting. The opposition had staged a massive protest against the Visakhapatnam-based Jaganmohan Reddy government’s development moves. Farmers had also intensified their protest against the land acquisition. Meanwhile, the Three Capitals Bill was repealed. Advocate General S Shriram informed the Andhra Pradesh High Court about this.

After the partition of Andhra Pradesh, the YSR Congress proposed three capitals for Andhra Pradesh. While Amravati was chosen as the Legislative (Legislative Assembly) Capital, Visakhapatnam was chosen as the Executive (Administrative) Capital, and Kurnool as the Judicial (Judicial) Capital. The bill was approved by the Cabinet in January 2020.
