Uttarakhand rain disaster; The death toll rose to 52

New Delhi: Death toll rises to 52 in Uttarakhand rains. 17 people have not been found yet.  Five people were killed in the Darjeeling area.  Two people drowned in the Torsha River.  Home Minister Amit Shah will today conduct an aerial survey of the rain-hit areas.

 With the opening of the Garhwal and Badrinath roads, the journey to Char Dham resumed. Transportation to Nainital, which was isolated in the floods, has been restored.  Widespread landslides hit Darjeeling in West Bengal.  Roads collapsed in many places.  The river Teesta wept.  Siliguri has stopped traffic on NH-55, the main thoroughfare of Darjeeling.

Traffic was also disrupted on the Siliguri-Gangtok route.  Red Alert has been declared in Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri and Alipurdhar.  The river Ganga overflowed at Haridwar.  Snowfall is also heavy in the Himalayan states. In the last three days, the Disaster Management Force has rescued about 8,000 people in Uttarakhand.
