Heavy rain warning, red alert at Pamba Dam: Devotees not allowed in Thulam month puja at Sabarimala

Pathanamthitta: A precautionary measure has been issued on the banks of Pamba in case two shutters of the Kakki dam are opened. Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in Pamba, Ranni, Aranmula, and Chengannur areas soon. The water level in Pamba is likely to rise by up to 10 cm, the district collector said.

Devotees are not allowed to enter Sabarimala for the Thulam puja as the water level in Pamba is dangerously high. The decision comes in the wake of warnings that heavy rains will continue in the state in the coming days.

Under the current circumstances, the Devaswom Board has requested the return of Ayyappa devotees who have been waiting at various centers in the state for Sabarimala darshan.
