New Delhi: The Union Ministry of Surface Transport has made fast tag mandatory on four-wheelers in the country from January 1. Vehicles before December 1, 2017, must also have a Fastag. The new decision is aimed at promoting digital toll collection. According to the new directive, the fitness certificate of the transport vehicle needs to be renewed along with the old vehicle, but Fastag is required. Fastag has been mandatory on national permit vehicles since October 2019. According to the Ministry of Transport, the move to a full-fledged Fastag system will reduce congestion at toll plazas and allow vehicles to pass freely.
