Nationwide Wi-Fi service, no special fee, Union Cabinet approves PM-Wani scheme

New Delhi: Union Cabinet approves plan to expand Wi-Fi service across the country Wi-Fi networks are allowed to start without any license fee or charge. The plan is to provide Wi-Fi service through public data offices.

The government plans to launch a Wi-Fi service called PM-Wani. The full version of PM Vani is the Public Wi-Fi Access Network Interface. The project aims to promote the growth of public Wi-Fi networks in the country.
Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that no special fee or registration fee will be charged from public data offices. Several public data centers will be set up in the country. This is how the service is provided. He added that the new plan would increase the likelihood of launching large-scale Wi-Fi networks. The minister was briefing the media on the decisions of the cabinet.

The Cabinet also approved a decision to allot Rs 22,810 crore to the Atmanirbhar Bharat Rosgar Yojana, which was set up to increase employment. The PF share of the employer and the worker will be borne by the Central Government for two years. The scheme will benefit 58.5 lakh employees. The Cabinet also approved the implementation of Submarine Optical Fiber Cable connectivity connecting Lakshadweep with Kochi.
