Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala state government has announced that the distribution of free Onam kits for the year 2026 will begin on August 10. Food and Civil Supplies Minister Anoop Jacob confirmed that the kit distribution will be completed by August 25 (Uthradam day) ahead of the Onam festival.
According to June 2026 records, approximately 6,09,305 food kits will be distributed across the state. The free kit scheme is specifically targeted at AAY (Yellow Card) ration cardholders and residents of various welfare institutions.

Special Rice and Wheat Distribution via Ration Shops
To curb market price surges during the festive season, the Civil Supplies Department and Supplyco will release 1,65,932 metric tonnes of rice and 24,506 metric tonnes of wheat into the market.
- Blue Cardholders (Non-Priority): Special rice distribution will begin next month. Blue cardholders will receive 3 kg of rice at ₹10.90 per kg and 2 kg of wheat at ₹8.70 per kg.
Supplyco Onam Fairs 2026
Supplyco is setting up several market interventions to control price inflation during Onam:
- Onam Mega Trade Fairs: August 8 to August 25 in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, and Kozhikode.
- District Fairs: August 16 to August 25 across 11 districts.
- Onam Markets: Set up across 126 assembly constituencies.
