Mercedes-Benz has officially relaunched its flagship luxury van in the Indian market, setting a new benchmark for VIP mobility. The 2026 Mercedes-Benz V-Class has been launched at a starting price of Rs 1.40 crore (ex-showroom, pan-India).
Essentially a heavily refreshed and upgraded version of the previous generation, the new V-Class Extra LWB brings a commanding presence, highly configurable “first-class” interiors, and advanced mild-hybrid powertrains. Locally assembled at Mercedes’ Chakan facility in Pune, deliveries for this ultimate luxury people-mover are slated to begin by the end of March.
The new V-Class steps into a fiercely competitive ultra-luxury MPV segment, going head-to-head with Japanese heavyweights like the Toyota Vellfire and the Lexus LM.
Imposing Exterior Design and Class-Leading Dimensions
The 2026 V-Class is offered exclusively in the Extra Long-Wheelbase (LWB) variant, making it the longest passenger vehicle in Mercedes-Benz India’s current lineup.
V-Class Dimensions:
- Length: 5,370 mm
- Width: 1,928 mm
- Height: 1,880 mm
- Wheelbase: 3,430 mm
To amplify its road presence, the AMG Line exterior package is offered as standard. It features a stunning, larger U-shaped illuminated front grille studded with the iconic three-pointed star motifs. The dual-pod multi-beam LED headlights feature sleek corner DRLs that give it an aggressive yet sophisticated face.
Riding on 18-inch dual-tone diamond-cut alloy wheels, the MPV maintains a clean profile devoid of excessive body cladding. At the rear, it gets an upright electrically-operated tailgate, vertical LED taillights, and a highly practical separately opening rear glass for quick access to the luggage area without opening the entire boot.
Welcome to The Private Suite: A Couture of Comfort
Step inside through the powered sliding rear doors, and the V-Class feels like an inner sanctum that transcends the material. Mercedes-Benz is offering the cabin draped in exquisite silk-beige lugano leather. Subtle alpaca-grey stitching traces the cabin, representing a mark of fine craftsmanship.
The seating options are highly flexible, catering to different lifestyle needs:
- The Chauffeur-Driven 4-Seater: Features two ultra-luxurious, airline-style multicontour captain seats in the rear row. These come with ventilation and adjustable calf support tailored for relaxation.
- The Practical 6-Seater: Adds two ventilated third-row seats that extend the same refreshing comfort.
Key Technology & Intuitive Features
Mercedes has integrated its latest tech suite into the MPV, replacing the older analog dials with a modern, horizontal dashboard layout.
- MBUX Infotainment System: Twin 12.3-inch floating displays (Digital Driver’s Display and Central Touchscreen).
- Energizing Comfort Package: Features eleven intuitive programmes that orchestrate comfort in perfect balance. It seamlessly harmonises climate, ambient lighting, sound, and seat functions to create a tailored atmosphere for your journey.
- Acoustic Experience: A booming 650W, 15-speaker Burmester surround sound system with Dolby Atmos.
- Ride Comfort: Airmatic Air Suspension with adaptive damping comes standard, specifically tuned to glide over unpredictable Indian roads.
Powerful Engine Options and Mileage Figures
For the first time, Mercedes-Benz is offering the V-Class with both petrol and diesel powertrains in India. All powertrains meet Bharat Stage VI equivalent emission norms.
- V300 d (Diesel): A robust 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 237 hp and a massive 500 Nm of torque. Based on global specifications, this engine delivers an estimated fuel economy of around 14.49 kmpl (approx. 6.9L/100km), keeping running costs reasonable for long highway journeys.
- V300 (Petrol): A refined 2.0-litre turbocharged engine generating 231 hp and 370 Nm of torque, paired with a 48V mild-hybrid assist system for an extra 20 hp boost. The mild-hybrid EQ tech aids in Stop/Start traffic to maximize efficiency.
Both powerplants are mated to Mercedes’ 9G-TRONIC 9-speed automatic transmission.
V-Class 2026 Mileage Figures ( Not official )
While Mercedes-Benz India hasn’t officially announced the exact ARAI-certified mileage figures for the newly launched 2026 V-Class yet, we can estimate its fuel efficiency based on the engine specifications and international data:
- V300 d (Diesel): Internationally, the 2.0-litre diesel engine in the V-Class is rated at roughly 6.9 Litres/100 km, which translates to about 14.5 kmpl under mixed driving conditions. For context, the older diesel V-Class in India had an ARAI-claimed mileage of 16.67 kmpl, so you can expect the new diesel to perform somewhat similarly on the highway, with real-world city mileage hovering around 10–12 kmpl given the vehicle’s 2.4-tonne weight.
- V300 (Petrol): This is a new engine option for India. While large petrol MPVs usually consume more fuel, the V300 comes equipped with a 48V mild-hybrid assist system (EQ Boost). This hybrid tech helps reduce fuel consumption in stop-and-go city traffic and during initial acceleration. You can expect real-world mileage to be slightly lower than the diesel, likely in the 8–11 kmpl range depending on driving conditions.
The Verdict: Should You Buy It?
At Rs 1.40 crore, the 2026 Mercedes-Benz V-Class targets luxury fleet operators, large families, and individuals who prioritize limousines-level transport and the prestige of the three-pointed star. With its highly configurable private suite, standard Airmatic suspension, and the addition of a refined petrol-hybrid engine, the V-Class is perfectly armed to take on its rivals.
