Air India has dismissed four senior employees following a controversial office party that took place just days after a tragic air crash in Ahmedabad. The disciplinary action came after videos from the celebration, held at the Gurugram office of AI SATS — a subsidiary of Air India — went viral on social media.
The incident occurred on June 20, when a party was organized at the Gurugram premises. A video showing employees dancing to the popular “Lungi Dance” song gained widespread attention online, sparking public outrage. Among the participants were several senior officials, including the Chief Financial Officer of AI SATS.
In response to the backlash, an Air India spokesperson clarified that the company does not condone the video and stands in solidarity with the families affected by the tragedy. The company emphasized that the behavior exhibited during the celebration was not in line with its core values. AI SATS also criticized the incident, labeling it deeply inappropriate and expressing regret that such a celebration had taken place.
The decision to terminate the four senior staff members was taken in light of the incident’s insensitivity, especially considering that the party occurred shortly after the Ahmedabad air disaster — a tragedy that left 260 victims’ families grieving, many of whom were unable to even see the bodies of their loved ones.
Air India reiterated its commitment to uphold dignity, responsibility, and empathy, especially during times of collective mourning.
