New Delhi: Indian Railways is preparing to implement a hike in ticket fares starting from July 1, according to reports from national media citing railway officials. This marks the first fare increase in several years. The hike will be marginal, with fares for non-AC mail and express trains increasing by one paisa per kilometer, and AC class tickets seeing a two-paisa per kilometer increase. However, there will be no change in fares for suburban trains or second-class journeys up to 500 kilometers. For second-class travel exceeding 500 kilometers, the fare will go up by half a paisa per kilometer. There are also indications that season ticket fares may remain unchanged.
