Vigilance continues in the country after the confirmed cases of HMP virus. Meanwhile, Union Health Minister JP Nadda said that there is no need to worry and this is not a new virus
Five cases of HMPV virus have been detected in the country so far. Two cases each in Bengaluru and Chennai and one case in Ahmedabad have been reported. The virus infection was confirmed in an eight-month-old boy and a three-month-old girl who returned from treatment at the Baptist Hospital in Hebbal, Bengaluru. In Chennai and Ahmedabad, only children are affected by the virus.
At the same time, the Indian Council of Medical Research said that Indians need not fear and the country’s health sector is ready to face any situation. ICMR’s statement came after two cases of HMPV were reported in Bengaluru.
The health department is concerned that the families of the children who have been diagnosed with the disease have not traveled abroad recently. The virus mainly affects children and the elderly with weak immunity. Symptoms of HMPV include fever, sneezing, cough, runny nose, and difficulty breathing. There is no specific medication or vaccine for HMPV. There is only symptomatic treatment.
