Tried to create religious rivalry; Central government bans 10 YouTube channels

Eight YouTube News Channels Banned

New Delhi: The Ministry of Information and Distribution has taken action against YouTube channels for spreading fake news. 10 YouTube channels have been banned by the central government. All 45 videos circulated through these channels were banned. The action is against YouTube channels that tried to create a religious rivalry. The action was taken based on the information provided by the intelligence agencies.

On August 18, the central government banned 8 YouTube channels for spreading false information related to national security. One Pakistani channel and seven Indian channels were banned by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting for broadcasting anti-India content. They were then found to have spread fake news such as that the Government of India had ordered the demolition of religious structures. The action is as per the IT rules of 2021.

The objective of the content of such YouTube channels was to spread hatred among religious communities. YouTube channels were also used to post fake news on various issues like Indian Armed Forces and Jammu and Kashmir.
