Lucknow: All the six accused in the case of rape and murder of Dalit sisters in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri have been remanded in judicial custody.
Meanwhile, after the post-mortem, the bodies of the girls were cremated last night. The post-mortem revealed that there was rape and strangulation. The family of the girls has written to the government stating their demands.
On Wednesday night, 17 and 15-year-old girls were found murdered in a sugarcane plantation in Nighasan village. The police sent the bodies for post-mortem without even showing them to the family members. The girl’s mother, who came to file a complaint, was beaten up by the police, leading to massive protests. A large police force has been deployed in the area.
Police arrested six neighbors of the girls in the incident. One of them was shot dead by the police. The post-mortem report said that during the rape, the girls were strangled using a scarf.
The mother of the girls said that on Wednesday night, the youths who came on bikes barged into the hut and after beating her, they abducted their daughters. The police claim that the girls were going out with the accused and the accused killed them because they forced them to marry.
