Santo Domingo: Nine people were killed when a private jet crashed in the Dominican Republic. Helidos, the owner of the plane, broke the news of the crash. Seven passengers and two crew members were killed. Six of the passengers were foreigners.

The crash happened during an emergency landing at the Los Americas Airport in the national capital, Santo Domingo. The reason for the emergency landing has not been released.

Srinagar: Two militants were killed in an encounter between security forces and militants in the Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said. The clash took place in the Redwani area on Wednesday night.

Police said the encounter was continuing. Authorities said the terrorists killed had not been identified.

Omicron confirmed to four more people in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram: Omicron has confirmed four more people in the state. Two people are infected through contact. The disease was confirmed in Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam. Health Minister Veena George said vigilance should be maintained in the face of an increasing number of patients.

The disease was confirmed in a native of Ernakulam from Congo and a native of Thiruvananthapuram from the UK. With this, the number of cases in the state has increased to five.

With the confirmation of four more Omicron in Kerala, the number of patients in the country has increased to 68. Omicron was confirmed for three people in Hyderabad today.

Amravati: Nine people were killed when a bus plunged into a river in Andhra Pradesh. Authorities said several people were injured. The accident took place in the West Godavari district.

The bus was traveling from Janardhyudam to Aswarapet in Telangana when it met with an accident. There were 35 people on the bus. Police said the accident happened when the oncoming lorry was cut off to avoid colliding with the bridge.

The bus crashed into the bridge and fell down. The bodies of nine people were found, including five women. The rescue operation was carried out by the locals and the police. The injured were rushed to the hospital.

Thiruvananthapuram: The main accused in the Pothalkode Kallur Sudheesh murder case have been arrested. The first accused Sudheesh Unni and the third accused Muttai Shyam were arrested. Muttai Shyam is the brother-in-law of the deceased Sudheesh. The main accused in the case, Ottakam Rajesh, could not be apprehended.

Police had arrested eight accused in the 11-member gang involved in the murder case yesterday. Auto driver Kaniyapuram Pallippuram Manakattuvilakam Thekkevila Panayil Veetil Ranjith (28), Chirayinkeezhu Sasthavattam Colony Seena Bhavanil Block No. 35 Nandeesan (Nandish -22), Veilur Sasthavattam Sudheesh Bhavanil Nitish (Motta -24), Koranakkupil Kuzhithoppu Veetil Jishnu (Katta Unni -22), Korani YMA Junction Vishnu Bhavanil Sooraj (Vishnu -23), Chembur Kulakode Puthenveettil Sachin (24), Kudavoor Kattiad Kalluvettankuzhi Veetil Arun (Dummy -23), Pirappankode Thykkad Mulakkunnu Lakshmanveettil Nandu -21) were arrested.

Sudheesh, an accused in the attempted murder case, was hacked to death by an 11-member gang at around 2.30 pm on Saturday at Kallur Pananvila Colony, Pothencode.

50 killed as fuel tanker explodes in Haiti

Port au Prince: A fuel tanker explodes in the Haitian city of Cap Haitian, killing at least 50 people. The death toll could rise as more people are seriously injured. Prime Minister Ariel Henry tweeted that more than 40 people had died in the incident. The accident happened while the people were rushing to collect fuel that had leaked from the tanker. The fuel in the tanker was delivered for distribution following a fuel shortage in the capital, Port-au-Prince, which was seized by criminal gangs. All 20 houses near the crash site were set on fire. No information was available on whether anyone inside the home suffered burns. The injured were taken to the nearby Justinian University Hospital.

Coonoor Helicopter Crash: Group captain Varun Singh succumbed to his injuries

Bangalore: Group captain Varun Singh succumbed to his injuries in a helicopter crash. According to Air Force officials, Varun Singh was pronounced dead this morning. He died at a military hospital in Bangalore. Varun Singh was the only soldier to survive the Coonoor helicopter crash. About 80 percent of the burns on the hands and face were treated in the emergency department for a week.

The tragedy took place around noon on December 8, killing the country’s joint military chief. The helicopter carrying Bipin Rawat crashed in Coonoor near Ooty. The crash was an Air Force M-17 helicopter. General Bipin Rawat was accompanied by his wife Madhulika Rawat in the helicopter. In addition, a total of 14 people were on board the helicopter, including the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s office staff and security personnel. Only group captain Varun Singh survived the accident.

Jawan Aneesh Joseph’s body buried with State Honors

Idukki: Tribute to Aneesh Joseph, a Malayalee soldier who died in a tent fire accident in Jammu and Kashmir. Aneesh’s body was cremated with official honors. Aneesh’s body was brought home at 9 am today and was received by Water Resources Minister Roshi Augustin.

Aneesh, a BSF jawan from Kochukamakshi, Idukki, was killed in an accident on duty in Baramulla, Kashmir last Monday. Aneesh’s tent caught fire. He died of his injuries while trying to escape. It is reported that the fire started from the cooling machine inside the tent.

Earthquake in Indonesia

Large earthquake near the Indonesian island of Flores.  The tremor measured 7.7 on the Richter scale.  A tsunami alert was issued following the quake.  No casualties or damage have been reported so far, but authorities have asked people to relocate from the beaches.

Encounter in Poonch killed terrorist

Srinagar: Clashes between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.  Security forces reportedly killed a terrorist.  The clash took place in the Surankot forest area in Poonch.  Meanwhile, another policeman was killed in a terrorist attack on a police bus in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.  The victim was a police officer who was critically injured in the attack.
