National strike;  Kochi Metro will run the service

Kochi: The Kochi Metro has announced a two-day strike from midnight today.
 Train traffic will not be disrupted.  The strike will not affect the civil aviation sector either.
 More than twenty organizations including CITU, INTUC, AITUC, KTUC and UTUC.  Hundreds of affiliates including KSRTC, private bus, auto, taxi, shops and establishment, farmers ‘organizations, fish marketing sector, co-operatives, various government service organizations and teachers’ unions are participating in the strike.  Petrol pump workers’ unions will also be part of the strike.  All public transportation is likely to be disrupted.

The two-day national strike begins

New Delhi: A two-day national strike has begun in the country. All the central trade unions, including the AITUC, are participating in the 48 – hour strike. The strike will end at midnight on Tuesday. Milk, newspapers, hospitals, ambulances, covid prevention activities, and travel of foreign tourists have been excluded from the strike.

Spotify service discontinued in Russia

Moscow: Spotify audio streaming service discontinued in Russia.  The decision comes as Russia’s military operation in Ukraine enters its second month.  However, the decision to suspend the service came after a law was passed punishing those who spread false news about military operations with up to 15 years in prison.
 A spokesman for Spotify said that their focus was on providing reliable and independent news and information, and that Russian law restricts access to information and restricts freedom of expression, which could endanger Spotify’s staff and listeners.
 In view of the situation in Russia, it has been decided to suspend the service completely.  He added that the company intends to suspend the service completely from early April.

Garib Kalyan scheme extends

New Delhi: The distribution of free foodgrains in the country through the PMGKAY scheme has been extended for another six months.  Union Minister Piyush Goyal has said that the project has been extended till September this year.  The decision was taken at a cabinet meeting chaired by the Prime Minister.  The scheme provides 5 kg of foodgrains per month free of cost to about 80 crore beneficiaries.

Vaccine precautionary dose for those going abroad

New Delhi: The Central Government is considering giving a precautionary dose of covid vaccine to those going abroad.  The move comes as travelers are required to take three doses of the vaccine for employment, educational and business purposes.  Foreign travelers are also being offered free booster doses at private vaccination centers.  Currently, the precautionary dose is provided free of charge to health care professionals and those over 60 years of age.
 Dosage priority and order are based on the completion of nine months from the date of taking the second dose as per the existing guidelines.  Vaccination was launched nationwide on January 16, 2021.  Initially, the vaccine was given to health workers.  Vaccination for all those over 45 years of age started on April 1 last year.  Vaccination of children aged 12 to 14 years started from March 16 this year. Meanwhile, the Central Government has relaxed the covid restrictions on international air travel.  The requirement for flight attendants to wear a PPE kit during travel has been waived.

Kerala government changes application format

 Thiruvananthapuram: The government has ordered that the word ‘thazhmayay’ should not be used in application forms.  Just use the request. The Department of Civil Service Reforms has directed that the term ‘thazhmayay applying’ be completely removed from the application forms of all government, quasi-government, and public sector undertakings in the State.  All department heads have been directed to take action in this regard.

The K rail buffer zone is only 10 meters on both sides

Thiruvananthapuram: K Rail Corporation has clarified the controversies related to the buffer zone of Silver Line, the dream project of Kerala. The buffer zone of the Silver Line is only 10 m on either side. Of these, construction is prohibited only in the first five meters. The other five meters can be used for construction work with prior permission. There is currently a five-meter construction ban on national highways. Such construction control on state highways is three meters. A buffer zone of 30 meters has been set up on both sides of Indian Railways for future development. It is also mandatory to obtain a railway permit for things like building construction in this area.
