Rain warning again in the state; Fishing is also prohibited

Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has warned that there is a possibility of light rain at isolated places in the state in the coming hours. The warning has been given to Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts.

It has also been advised not to go fishing in Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts. The Meteorological Department has predicted the possibility of strong winds and adverse weather conditions along the Kerala-Lakshadweep coast with a speed of 40 to 45 kmph and occasional gusts of up to 55 kmph. Coastal residents should also remain vigilant, the warning states.

Pension disbursement from 14th July

Thiruvananthapuram: The distribution of pension will start from July 14. More than 60 lakh people in the state will be given a pension of Rs 1600 each.  The Finance Department has allocated Rs 874 crore, including Rs 768 crore for Social Security Pension and Rs 106 crore for Welfare Board Pension.  This was announced by Finance Minister KN Balagopal.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will launch its third lunar mission, Chandrayaan 3, on July 14, 2023, at 2:35 pm IST. The launch will be live-streamed on the ISRO’s official YouTube channel.

The launch will take place from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh. The spacecraft will be launched by the Launch Vehicle Mark-III (LVM3), which is a heavy-lift launch vehicle developed by ISRO.

Chandrayaan 3 is a follow-up to the Chandrayaan 1 and Chandrayaan 2 missions. The spacecraft will carry a number of scientific instruments to study the lunar surface, including a rover and a lander.

The launch of Chandrayaan 3 is a major milestone for India’s space program. It will be the first time that India has attempted to land a spacecraft on the moon’s south pole.

Bus collides with mini lorry in Kannur;  One died;  24 people were injured

Kannur: Bus collides with mini lorry in Kannur.  The incident took place in Thota.  A passenger in the bus died in the midnight accident.  24 passengers were injured.  The condition of two injured people is serious.  The lorry driver was also injured.  The bus of Kallada Travels was involved in the accident.  Eyewitnesses said that the bus collided with the lorry and overturned three times.  The Kallada bus from Mangalore to Pathanamthitta met with an accident.

The number of flu patients in the Kerala state has crossed 13,000;  4 deaths today

Thiruvananthapuram: The number of people who have sought treatment for fever in the state has crossed 13,000.  The health department also informed that four people who sought treatment due to fever died today.

 It has been confirmed that one death was due to rat fever and the other due to dengue fever.  13248 people sought treatment due to fever today alone.  10 people were diagnosed with H1N1 and 2 people were diagnosed with malaria.

Floods in north India: 37 dead, rescue operation continues

New Delhi: 37 people were killed in accidents due to heavy rains in North India.  Efforts are on to rescue those trapped in landslides and lightning floods at various places.  Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to the Chief Ministers of the rain-fed states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.  The Prime Minister has assured the states of the Centre’s full support.

 18 lives have been claimed in Himachal Pradesh due to flash floods and landslides caused by continuous rains in the last two days.  9 people each died in Punjab and Haryana, 7 people died in Rajasthan and 3 people died in Uttar Pradesh in accidents due to rain.  Rivers including Yamuna are overflowing in Delhi.  All the areas adjacent to the river are flooded.  39 NDRF teams are involved in Rakasha operation in four states.  In Punjab, the army rescued 910 students from a private university that was stranded in the floods.

Masks made compulsory for school children in Malappuram district

Malappuram: The health department has instructed that school children in Malappuram district must wear masks.  The directive came after 3 of the 4 deaths due to H1N1 fever in Malappuram were children.

 After 2009, more H1N1 disease is reported in the district now.  According to the calculations of the health department, the disease is mostly seen in young children.

 The main symptoms are fever, cough and shortness of breath.  The health department points out that the spread of disease can be prevented through the use of masks.  At the same time, there are reports that the number of rabies and dengue patients is also increasing in the district.

Liquor ban in Thiruvananthapuram on July 17

Thiruvananthapuram: On the occasion of Karkitaka Vavubali on July 17, the District Collector has issued an order banning the operation of all liquor shops in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, Varkala Municipality, Aruvikara and Perungadavila Gram Panchayat limits.

 The order is for the safety of people including women who come to Bali Tarpanam.  The ban has been imposed from midnight on July 16 to 2 pm on July 17.

Widespread violence in West Bengal elections, 16 people including a CPM worker were killed

Kolkata: Widespread conflict in West Bengal elections.  Trinamool Congress workers and Congress workers clashed.  Reportedly, 16 people including a CPIM worker were killed in the clash. The assailants burnt the ballot boxes in the polling booth in Cooch Behar.

 The conflict related to the panchayat elections started from last night.  Today morning at 7.00 am along with the polling, clashes between the party workers started in different places in the state.  In Cooch Behar’s Baravitha Primary School, polling booths were vandalized and ballot papers were burnt. Two people were injured in Gitaldaha firing.

 It is reported that 16 people were killed in the conflict.  Among those killed were 5 Trinamool Congress workers, one worker each from BJP, CPI(M) and Congress and one booth agent of an independent candidate.

 TMC activists vandalized the polling booth and prevented locals from voting at the Barasat Jikra FP School polling booth.  The assailants also reportedly stole ballot boxes.  CPIM activists have lodged a complaint with Governor Ananda Bose of Bengal.  The activists told the governor that no one is safe.
