Rain will intensify from Wednesday, yellow alert in four districts

Thiruvananthapuram: The Central Meteorological Department has predicted that rains are likely to intensify in Kerala from Wednesday due to the influence of low pressure which is expected to form in the Bay of Bengal. A yellow alert has been issued in Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts due to the possibility of heavy rain at isolated places in these districts.

Heavy rain is forecast at isolated places in Kottayam and Ernakulam districts besides Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts on Thursday. Yellow alert has also been declared in these districts as part of vigilance.

The Central Meteorological Department has predicted that the low pressure, which is expected to form in the Bay of Bengal by Tuesday, will intensify by Thursday. Apart from this, easterly winds blow over South India. As a result of all this, the weather department has warned that there is a possibility of widespread rain in Kerala till Saturday.

ISIS connection: Aligarh University students arrested

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad has arrested six youths linked to the Islamic State from different parts of the state.  The six are activists of Students of Aligarh University (SAMU), a student organization of Aligarh Muslim University.  Information about the four arrested persons has been released.  They are Rakib Inam, Naved Siddiqui, Muhammad Noman and Muhammad Nasim.  UP ATS said that they had planned a large-scale terrorist attack in the country.

 Police also said that SAMU meetings have become a new platform for IS recruitment.  When the National Investigation Agency interrogated Rizwan and Shanawaz, who were arrested in connection with the Pune IS module, UP ATS learned that many students of Aligarh Muslim University were spreading IS ideas through social media and were connected with the Indian network of IS.

Thiruvananthapuram: Minister G Ar Anil said that timely change in the price of the products subsidized by Supplyco is necessary.  The Minister said that only natural correction will be done and Supplyco is taking effective intervention to contain the price rise.

 He said that the price of 2016 should be compared with today’s price and a firm cannot continue at this level.

 The LDF agreed in principle to the price hike.  Thirteen items have not increased in price for seven years.  Naturally, there has to be an amendment to this.  Due to this, the price does not increase in the market.  The minister said that it has not been decided how much the price of subsidized goods will increase.

Air pollution is severe;  Up to 18 schools will be closed in Delhi

New Delhi: Winter vacation till November 18 in Delhi due to severe air pollution.  The winter vacation, which was given in the months of December and January, was postponed due to severe air pollution.  A holiday was announced before schools till 10th of this month.  This is  extended. 

 The order issued by the state education department has directed that all schools will remain closed till November 18 and students and teachers should stay at home.  Air pollution levels in Delhi continue to be critical.  The government has issued many regulations to reduce pollution.

 Earlier, holiday was announced for primary schools till Friday due to severe pollution.  Classes 6 to 12 were also instructed to take online classes.

 After the Supreme Court’s intervention, the Delhi government is preparing to tighten pollution controls.  The government has issued instructions to arrest polluting vehicles.  Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has recommended the suspension of Delhi Pollution Control Board Chairman Ashwani Kumar, who has suggested the closure of smog towers in Delhi.

 Ashwani Kumar had stopped the operation of the smog tower within two years of its commencement stating that it was not viable.  Delhi is in the grip of smoke and snow for the seventh day in a row.  According to reports, air pollution is likely to be severe till November 15.  It is estimated that agricultural residues are mostly burnt during this time.

AI Camera: Penalty arrears will apply to Pollution test certificate; Minister Antony Raju

Thiruvananthapuram: Only vehicles with no outstanding fines in the state will get a pollution test certificate from December 1.  The decision was taken by the road safety review meeting chaired by Minister Antony Raju.  The meeting assessed that the road accident death rate has decreased in the five months since the installation of the AI ​​camera.  From June 2023 to October 31, 2023 when the AI ​​camera was installed, there were 1263 road accident deaths in the state.  In the same period in 2022, 1669 people died in the state.  In the month of September this year, 273 lives were lost in road accidents.  But in the month of September last year, 365 people died in road accidents.  In October last year, 340 people died in road accidents while this year, as per the report received so far, 85 deaths have occurred.  The death rate may still vary as many of those in critical condition are being treated.

 74,32,371 traffic violations were detected from June 5 to October when the cameras started functioning.  Of these, 58,29,926 cases were checked, 23,06,023 cases were uploaded in the Integrated Transport Monitoring System and 2,103,801 challans were prepared.  Over 139 crore fines were committed during this period.  Around Rs 21.5 crore has already been received as penalty.

 Riding two-wheelers without wearing a helmet accounted for the highest number of violations in the month of October at 21,865.  The minister said that 13 MP-MLA vehicles have been fined during this period.  The minister also said that he will hold a discussion with the heads of the insurance companies on November 15 in Thiruvananthapuram.

 From November 1, it has been decided to make seat belt and cameras inside and outside the vehicle mandatory for drivers and front row passengers for fitness certificate.

Drug hunt in Angamaly, 2 persons including woman arrested

 Angamali: Two people, including a woman, were arrested with 50 grams of drugs in Angamali.  Sajith (28) and Siya (32) were arrested at North Paravur Mannam Matepadi and Siya (32) at Pallithazham Valiya Param by the Rural District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force and Angamaly Police.

 The narcotics were found during a vehicle search conducted following a tip-off received by District Police Chief Vivek Kumar.  The drug was smuggled in a tourist bus from Bengaluru to Kochi.  A special compartment was made in the bag and it was hidden in it.

 It is reported that the drug was bought from Bengaluru Madiwala at a price of Rs 4,000 per gram.  The sale was made in Edapally – Kakkanad areas for four times the amount.  It is indicated that they had smuggled drugs in the same way before this.

 They had planned to get off at Edapally.  In the morning, the tourist bus was stopped in front of the Angamali bus stand and checked.  There is already a ganja case in Alappuzha in Sajith’s name.
