Dust storm in Mumbai; Eight dead after huge billboard collapses

Eight people died when a huge billboard collapsed during a heavy dust storm in Mumbai. The signboard near the police ground petrol pump in Ghadkopar near the Eastern Express Highway collapsed. Police informed that eight people died and 59 people were injured.

The board was on the opposite side of the pump. But the board collapsed towards the center of the pump. Many vehicles were stuck after the accident. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) led the rescue operation. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that an inquiry has been ordered into the incident.

The city of Mumbai was engulfed in a dust storm at around 3:30 pm today. Air, train and metro services have also been disrupted in many parts of the city due to the dust storm. Power supply has also stopped in many areas.

Change in Train Timings, Revised Timings of Vande Bharat are as follows

On May 13th, Railways has released the revised timetable of Train No. 20632 Thiruvananthapuram Central Mangaluru Central Vande Bharat Express.  According to the revised timetable, Vande Bharat will arrive at Ernakulam Junction at 6.42 pm and depart at 6.45 pm.  Reached Thrissur at 7.56 pm, departed at 7.58 pm, reached Shornur at 8.30 pm and departed at 8.32 pm.  It reaches Tirur at 9.02.  Departs at 9.32.  Vande Bharat will reach Kozhikode at 9.32 and depart from there at 9.34.  It reaches Kannur station at 10.36 pm and departs Kasargodek two minutes later.  The train reaches Kasaragod at 11.46 pm and departs at 11.48 pm.

 Meanwhile, the timing of train number 06497, Shornur Junction – Thrissur passenger train is also changed on that day.  The train starts its journey from Shornur at 12.05 pm, reaches Vallathol Nagaret at 12.17 pm, starts its journey at 12.18 pm and reaches Mullurkara at 12.22 pm.  It will leave from there at 12.23 and reach Vadakancheri at 12.31.  12.32 will return from there and reach Mulanguntanakavi at 12.40.  It will depart at 12.41 and reach Ponkunnethe at 12.48.  It will depart from there at 12.49.

ISRO Chief Somanath unveils Zero Emission initiative of SFO Technologies

Indian Space Research Organisation Chairman and Secretary, Department of Space, Government of India, S Somanath unveiled the carbon reduction initiative of SFO Technologies, the flagship company of the NEST Group on Saturday. Besides planting a sapling at the NEST Hi-Tec Park to mark the occasion, Mr. Somanath interacted with the NeST engineers and management team.  

The Carbon Reduction initiative of the NeST Group is in tune with the United Nations’ objective of achieving a 50 percent reduction by 2030 and zero emissions by 2040.

During the address to NeST employees ISRO Chairman said

The Indian space industry is offering a tremendous opportunity for the private sector in the country as a new area of growth and development, says S Somanath, secretary department of space, chairman, space commission and Indian Space Research Organization. The government of India envisages the space industry in the country to 9-10 billion dollar industry in the next 5-10 years from the current levels of 2 billion dollars. Me. Somanath was speaking after launching the zero emission initiative of the SFO Technologies belonging to the NeST Group at their Hi-Tech Park in Kalamasery on Saturday. Mr. Somanath said 400 private sector companies have benefited from the technology developed by ISRO for its various mission. Companies like SFO Technologies are already working with ISRO on various projects including Chandrayan, Aditya missions and is well positioned to take further advantage of the new policy initiatives in the space sector by the government of India.

NeST Group Chairman N Jehangir said discussions are on with ISRO for various projects including the Gaganyaan project aiming to carry human beings to space for the first time through the Indian Space Mission.

Jesna Missing Case: Court Orders Fresh Probe Based on Father’s New Evidence

Thiruvananthapuram: The Thiruvananthapuram CJM court has ordered further investigation in the missing case of Jesna Maria James. The order comes on a petition filed by Jesna’s father, James Joseph. The court directed a fresh probe based on new evidence presented by James.

James had petitioned the CJM court alleging that the ongoing CBI investigation was not effective. He also submitted sealed evidence related to the case to the court. James informed the court that Jesna might not be alive and that he could provide confidential information about an unknown friend.

Following this, the court asked the CBI to submit the case diary. The court indicated that further investigation would be ordered if the evidence presented by James hadn’t been considered by the CBI earlier.

Jesna went missing from Kottayam, Kerala on March 22nd, 2018. The CBI, which took over the investigation, hasn’t made any significant progress so far. This prompted Jesna’s father to approach the court seeking a renewed investigation.

Devaswom Board will no longer give oleander flower as prasad in temples

Thiruvananthapuram: The Travancore Devaswom Board has taken a decisive decision in the context of growing suspicions that oleander flower is poisonous. It has been decided to avoid oleander flowers in the prasads and offerings given to the devotees in the temples. But there is no restriction in using oleander flowers for pooja. Not used for Nivedya Samarpanam, Archana, Prasad etc. Other flowers will be used instead of oleander flowers. The decision will be effective from tomorrow itself.

Devaswom Board President PS Prashanth had initially informed that a decision would be taken after the results of the scientific test regarding the presence of toxicity in oleander flowers. But the Travancore Devaswom Board decided this after the news about this came and the public suggestion was raised not to use oleander flowers.

After the death of Surya Surendran, a resident of Haripad, the poison of oleander flowers became a big discussion. Devotees and temple staff had expressed their concern to the Devaswom Board after reports came out that the bite of oleander flower and leaf caused the death of the young woman. After this, the suspicion that oleander flower was the cause behind the death of cows and calves in Pathanamthitta has been raised, and the suspicion that oleander flower is poisonous is getting stronger.

Dismissed employees will be reinstated; Air India Express employees call off strike

Air India Express employees have decided to call off the unexpected strike that caused distress to the passengers. The decision was made in the context of management’s assurance that they will look into the problems of the employees and take back the dismissed employees. The strike was settled in a meeting called by the Central Labor Commission.

About 300 cabin crew members, including pilots, went on a lightning strike on sick leave last day. The employees’ strike was in protest against the policies of the Tata Group-owned company and the changes in the service and wage system. Due to this, more than 170 services were canceled and the passengers were in distress. However, the employees decided to call off the strike as the management assured to look into the problems of the employees. The management also assured to reinstate the 25 dismissed employees.

A memorandum of understanding was also signed between the management and the employees. Cabin crew members who have taken sick leave will resume work immediately after providing a fitness certificate. On 28th of this month, both sides will hold talks again in Delhi under the mediation of the Regional Labor Officer. The Regional Labor Commission has stated that the complaints of the employees are true and there has been a violation of the law.

Director Sangeet Sivan passed away

Thiruvananthapuram: Famous director and cinematographer Sangeet Sivan passed away. He died in a private hospital in Mumbai. He has directed many films like Yoddha, Nirnayam, Gandharvam. Sangeet Sivan’s first directorial venture was Vyuham which released in 1990.

Father Shiva is a famous photographer. Cinematographer and director Santhosh Sivan and director Sanjeev Sivan are brothers.

Change in SSLC exam pattern from next year: Education Minister

Thiruvananthapuram: Education Minister V Sivankutty has announced that the SSLC exam pattern will be changed from next year. The exam pattern from next year will be such that a minimum 12 marks are required to pass each subject. The minister added that an education conclave would be held to discuss the change. The minister’s announcement was made during the announcement of the examination results for the academic year 2023-24.

SSLC Exam Result Declared: 99.69 % Pass; 71831 students secured A+ in all subjects

Thiruvananthapuram: This year’s SSLC result has been declared. Education Minister V Sivankutty has announced the SSLC, THSLC and AHSLC exam results for the year 2023-24. 99. The pass percentage this year is 69 percent. This time the success percentage is slightly lower than last year.

  4,25,563 qualified for higher education. Kottayam has the most winners (99.92). Less Thiruvananthapuram (99.08) .

71831 students secured A plus in all subjects. In Malappuram 4934 students secured A plus in all subjects. Malappuram is the district with the highest number of full A Plus.

892 government schools have a 100 percent pass rate. 1139 aided schools and 443 unaided schools got 100 percent pass.

Application for revaluation will start from tomorrow. The SAY exam will be held from May 28 to June 6. Certificates of those eligible for higher studies will be available in DIGI Locker from the first week of June. The Education Minister also informed that applications for Plus One admission can be submitted from May 16.

Widespread flight cancellations: Aviation ministry seeks report from Air India

New Delhi: The Ministry of Civil Aviation has sought a report from Air India on widespread cancellation of flight services. The Ministry of Civil Aviation informed that the airline has been asked to resolve the issue immediately and the airlines have been directed to provide facilities to the passengers as per DGCA rules. The action of the Ministry of Aviation comes after about ninety flight services have been canceled since Tuesday night.

The crisis was triggered by a group of cabin crew members taking mass leave. More than 200 cabin crew employees have taken sick leave. The employees took sick leave en masse and went on strike demanding an increase in allowance. Air India Express apologized for the inconvenience caused to the passengers due to the cancellation of the flight.
