All PSC exams till August 2 postponed;  Updated date later

 Thiruvananthapuram: PSC has announced that all the examinations scheduled to be held from July 31 to August 2 have been postponed due to the monsoon disaster.  There will be no change to the pre-scheduled interviews.  The revised date of postponed exams will be notified later.

 PSC said in a press release that those from disaster affected areas who could not attend the interview will be given another chance.

Wayanad, Kerala: A massive landslide has struck the Chooralmala area in Mundakai, Wayanad district, trapping over 300 people in the Tree Valley resort. Army moves to tree valley resort where more than 300 people are trapped .Rescue operations are underway with the Indian Army deployed to the scene.

The situation remains critical, and authorities are working tirelessly to evacuate those trapped and provide necessary assistance.

ED hits back at Supreme Court; Hemant Soren’s bail will not be cancelled

Ranchi: The Supreme Court rejected the appeal filed by the Enforcement Directorate seeking cancellation of the bail of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren. The action of the Supreme Court observed that the judgment of the High Court granting bail was reasonable. Hemant Soren’s appeal was rejected by the Ranchi High Court seeking to quash the bail.

  The court rejected the ED’s contention that the High Court verdict would affect the trial. The Supreme Court clarified that the observations in the High Court order will not affect the trial. A bench comprising Justices BR Gavai and KV Viswanathan heard the petition. On June 28, the High Court granted bail to Hemant Soren. The ED’s contention was that the judgment was flawed and the bail was granted without examining the facts of the case. According to the ED petition, the High Court erred in saying that there is no prima facie case against Hemant Soren.

Blast in Kashmir: Four killed

Srinagar: Four people were killed in an explosion at Sopore in Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir. The explosion occurred while unloading goods at scrapping sho. The blast took place at a shop in Baramulla. The deceased have been identified as Naseer Ahmed Nadru, Azam Ashraf Mir, Adil Rashid Bhatt and Abdul Rashid Bhatt. The four deceased are natives of Sopore. The injured were admitted to SKIMs.

 The cause of the explosion is unclear. The region had not reported any attacks for four years. The area was also the political stronghold of late Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani. The police have registered a case and started investigation.

Delhi High Court Stays Medha Patkar’s Jail Sentence

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has stayed the proceedings against social activist Medha Patkar in the defamation case. Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena was sentenced to five months imprisonment and a fine in a defamation case filed 23 years ago when he was the head of an NGO. This is now stayed by the Delhi High Court. On May 24, the Delhi court sentenced Medha in the defamation case. The court issued a notice to the complainant Delhi Lt. Governor VK Saxena and granted bail to Medha Patkar on a bond of Rs 25,000. The court asked Saxena to reply to the notice on September 4.

  Meanwhile, Medha Patkar had filed a case against Saxena for publishing advertisements against her and Narmada Bachao Andolan. After this, Saxena filed a defamation case against Medha in 2001. Saxena has filed two cases alleging that Medha Patkar made defamatory remarks against her on a television channel and issued a defamatory press release.

  Saxena headed the National Council for Civil Liberties, an Ahmedabad-based NGO. The complaint alleged that Saxena was called a ‘coward’ and was involved in hawala transactions. After two years, the case was transferred to the Delhi court as per the instructions of the Supreme Court.

New governors for 9 states including Rajasthan

New Delhi: President’s order appointing new governors to 9 states including Rajasthan and Puducherry. The order came on Saturday night. The new governors will arrive in Rajasthan, Telangana, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Panjah-Chandigarh, Assam and Puducherry.

Laxman Prasad Acharya, who was the governor of Sikkim, is coming to Assam. Apart from Assam, Acharya is also the Governor of Manipur. Anasuya Yukye was the Governor of Manipur from February 2023 till now.

BJP leader Prakash Mathur will be the Governor of Sikkim. CP Radhakrishnan, who was the Governor of Jharkhand, will become the Governor of Maharashtra.

Former Labor Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar is the new Governor of Jharkhand. Former Chief Minister of Tripura Jishnu Dev Verma will take over as Governor of Telangana.

Former IAS officer K Kailasanathan will be the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry. Senior BJP leader Haribhau Kisan Rao Bagde will be the governor of Maharashtra, former MP Ramen Deka of Chhattisgarh and CH Vijayashankar of Meghalaya.

Kerala Student Among Three Dead in Delhi Coaching Centre Tragedy

Delhi: A tragic incident has unfolded in Delhi, where three students, including a Keralite, lost their lives after being trapped in the basement of a civil service coaching centre that was flooded. The incident occurred in Old Rajendra Nagar.

The deceased have been identified as three students, with one of them being a native of Ernakulam district in Kerala. While the identity of the Kerala student has not been officially confirmed by the district authorities, local reports suggest the victim’s name is Naveen.

A magisterial inquiry has been ordered by the Delhi government to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi has assured that strict action will be taken against those responsible for the incident.

Car accident in Jammu and Kashmir; 8 members of a family including 2 children died

Srinagar: 8 members of a family were killed when their vehicle fell into a ditch in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag. Two of them are children. The accident happened on the Simdhan-Kokernag road.

The group was returning from Madwa Kishtwar. It is indicated that the driver lost control and was the cause of the accident.

Death toll rises to 3 in building collapse in Navi Mumbai

MUMBAI: Three people were killed and two others injured when a four-storey residential building collapsed in Navi Mumbai’s CBD Belapur early on Saturday. Municipal authorities informed that three shops were functioning in the building. The building collapsed at 4.50 am.

Meanwhile, two people trapped in the debris were rescued and admitted to hospital,” said Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) Commissioner Kailas Shinde.
