Five students killed in car-truck collision in Tamil Nadu

 Five students died in an accident between a car and a truck in Thiruvallur, Tamil Nadu.  Two people were injured.  The accident occurred between a car carrying students and another truck at Ramancheri in Tiruvallur district.

 The accident occurred while the students were returning from Andhra Pradesh after an excursion.  The students of Chennai SRM College were involved in the accident.

A newborn baby was killed and buried in Alappuzha; 2 people arrested

Alappuzha: It is reported that a newborn baby was killed and buried in Kunumma Takazi, Alappuzha. A woman from Cherthala Poochakkal killed her baby by her male friend and another person. In the incident, two people from Takazi were taken into police custody.
The woman is unmarried. On the 8th of this month, the woman sought treatment at a private hospital in Kochi. They give birth to the baby on the seventh day. Later, the woman comes for treatment saying that it is physical discomfort. They initially said that when the hospital authorities searched the baby, she handed it over to the mother’s cradle. She later gave contradictory statements that she was handed over to her relatives and that she was at home. Suspicious hospital authorities informed Poochakal police. There were contradictions even when the police came and took the statement.

More information about the baby is obtained in the detailed investigation conducted later. At the same time, the police are yet to confirm whether the baby was killed by them or the baby died during childbirth. The woman handed over the baby’s body to her boyfriend, a resident of Takazi. Police say that she went with another friend and hid the body in Takazi Kunmmal. The police said that the dug-up area has been cleared. The police have also taken the woman’s statement. The police have started a detailed investigation into the incident.

Thiruvananthapuram: Priority category yellow ration card holders will get free Onam kit this time too. As per last year, the kits will be provided to the inmates of various welfare institutions at the rate of 1 per 4 persons.

5.87 lakh people will get the kit. The Chief Minister will inaugurate the Supplyco Onam markets at the state level in Thiruvananthapuram. Onam markets will start from 4th of next month. Onam markets will function in all districts. There will be one market in each assembly constituency.

These will work till the end of the month. During the last 5 days, locally produced organic vegetables will also be sold through the Onam Markets. The Department of Food and Civil Supplies has informed that discussions are continuing regarding the provision of rice and sugar specially for Onam.

Former minister Kutty Ahammed Kutty passed away

Malappuram: Former minister and Muslim League leader K Kutty Ahmed Kutty passed away. He was 77 years old. In 2004, he was the Minister of Local Self-Government in the Oommen Chandy Cabinet. Kutty Ahmed Kutty became MLA from Tanur in 1996 and Thirurangadi in 2001.

He is a member of the state executive of the Muslim League and was a former state vice president of the party. He has held the posts of President of Muslim League Tanur Mandal and Chairman of Tirur MSM Polytechnic Governing Body.

Two more soldiers were martyred in Kashmir. The encounter took place in Anantnag district. Three soldiers were injured. They were admitted to the hospital. 14 soldiers were killed in three months.

Thiruvananthapuram: Amoebic encephalitis has been confirmed in three persons in Thiruvananthapuram.  All three are undergoing treatment at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.    The young man who died on the 23rd of last month was also diagnosed with the disease.  The health department has issued a warning regarding the confirmed cases of the disease in various parts of the state.  Those who use water that harbors algae or bathes animals should take precautions.  It is also advised not to bathe in stagnant polluted water.

 Amoebic meningoencephalitis is a very rare disease in people who come into contact with standing or running water sources.  There are very few scientific studies and study results about this rare disease.  It is estimated that only 2.6 out of 10 lakh people who come in contact with such water in the world get this disease.
