Large bench to hear plea related to Hema committee report

Kochi: The High Court will set up a large bench to examine the petitions related to the Hema Committee report. A five-member broad bench including a woman judge will be formed. The Division Bench presided over by Acting Chief Justice A Muhammad Mushtaq stated this while considering the petition filed by producer Sajimon Parayil, questioning the release of the Hema Committee report.

The Acting Chief Justice will decide who will be on the bench. It is reported that the complete form of the Hema Committee report will be submitted in a sealed envelope on September 9.

The court directed the government to submit the full version of the report while considering the public interest petition filed by Thiruvananthapuram native Paichira Nawaz seeking action on the issues in the report.

Thiruvananthapuram: Police have confirmed that the Pappanamkot fire was a murder. Two people died in a fire at a private insurance company.

The police confirmed that Vaishna, an employee of the establishment, and her boyfriend Binu died. The police also informed that a DNA test will be conducted to prove that the second deceased is Binu.

The deceased insurance company employee Vaishna’s first husband and Binu were friends. After separating from her first husband, she was living together with Binu. Binu and Vaishna have been living apart for 7 months. According to the police, there was a problem between the two in the same institution 4 months ago. A bottle containing kerosene was found during the forensic examination. No trace of blood was found on the knife. The police are interrogating people related to Binu and Vaishna. The incident will be clarified on the basis of detailed statements.

The police said that they will conduct a DNA test to prove that the second body belongs to Binu. CCTV footage of nearby buildings shows a man entering just before the fire broke out. The police suspect that this is Binu. The person cannot be identified from the footage. The person who went up never came back down.

The fire broke out from a private insurance company operating in Pappanamkot at around 1:30 pm yesterday. The locals could not even put out the fire. When the fire brigade extinguished the fire, two bodies were found with burnt knives. Although Vaishna was identified, it was not clear at first who the second body belonged to. The police who checked the place became suspicious. It became clear that there were family problems when the police, who initially understood that the danger was not a short circuit, called Vaishna’s brother and inquired about the matter. New Delhi: Four Indians, including a young woman, died in a car accident in the United States. The accident happened when they were traveling together in a car through a carpooling app.

The accident is in Texas. The tragedy occurred on Friday en route to Bentonville, Arkansas. After the accident, the SUV they were traveling in caught fire. The bodies are burnt. Authorities are relying on DNA testing to confirm the identity.

Relief for Wayanad victims: Govt announces moratorium on confiscation proceedings

The state government has announced a moratorium on confiscation proceedings against Wayanad landslide victims. This was informed by Minister K Rajan. He said in a note shared on Facebook that the government issued the order to stay the confiscation proceedings until further notice. He also stated that the government announced the moratorium on the basis of the Kerala Revenue Recovery Amendment Act which was introduced in the Legislative Assembly last July and passed by the House.

More train services have been canceled as heavy rains continue in the Southern Railway region. Trains including Ernakulam-Tata Nagar Express from Kerala have been cancelled.

The services of Ernakulam-Hathia Dharti Aba Express scheduled to depart today, Ernakulam-Tata Nagar Express scheduled for 5, Kochuveli-Shalimar Express scheduled for 6, Kanyakumari-Howrah Super Fast Express scheduled for 7 and Tirunelveli-Purulia Express scheduled for 7 have also been cancelled.

Thiruvananthapuram: In connection with Onam, Supplyco will organize Onam fairs across the state from September 5 to 14, said Food Minister GR Anil.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the state level Onam Fairs on 5th. District level fairs will be held from September 6 to 14 and Taluk / Constituency wise fairs from September 10 to 14. Apart from 13 subsidized items, Sabari products and FMCG products will be available at 10 to 50 percent discount through Onam fairs.

The Minister said that Supplyco has completed the tender process for 13 items of subsidized goods for market intervention during Onam. Availability of 13 items of essential items will be ensured at all Onam fairs and other outlets of SupplyCo. Supplyco has placed purchase orders for essential commodities worth Rs 300 crore for Onam market intervention. Sugar, which was currently in short supply at Supplyco outlets, will be supplied to all outlets on the occasion of Onam.

Supplyco is bringing more than 200 daily use items of leading brands to the Onam markets at huge discounts. Products like ghee, honey, pepper, other branded food products, major brands of detergents, floor cleaners and toiletries will get 45 percent discount. There will also be a special package called Sabari Signature Kit which will offer six Sabari products worth Rs 255 for Rs 189. A Deep Discount Hours scheme will be implemented to provide additional discounts of up to 10 percent on various branded products in addition to the existing discounts. It will be from 2 pm to 4 pm. Attractive combo offers and buy one get one offer are available for leading branded products.

The minister informed that five new outlets of Supplyco will be opened in Thiruvananthapuram district before Onam. Free Onam kits will be distributed to 6 lakh AAY (Yellow) card holders in the state, NPI card holders who are residents of various welfare institutions and all ration card holders in Wayanad disaster affected area. The Onam kit consists of 14 items including chickpea nuts, semiya payasam mix, milma ghee, cashew nuts, coconut oil, sambar powder, chilli powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, tea, chickpeas, tuvar dal and powder and a cloth bag. Distribute one kit to 4 persons living in welfare institutions. Onam kits will be distributed through ration shops in the state from September 9. Officials will deliver the kits directly to residents of welfare institutions from September 10. The government will spend Rs 34.29 crore for the distribution of Onam kit through SupplyCo.

All NPS (Blue) and NPNS (White) card holders in the state will be specially distributed 10 kg of rice at the rate of Rs.10.90. Special rice is available to non-priority groups along with the September ration. A total of 52.38 lakh cardholders will benefit, including 22.62 lakh blue card holders and 29.76 lakh white card holders in the state.

The present amount of rice provided by Supplyco will be increased to 10 kg on the occasion of Onam. The distribution of one kg of sugar, which was given to yellow card holders, will resume. The Minister said that the K Store project will be completed on September 4 as part of the 100-day Karma program prepared on the occasion of the 4th anniversary of the state government.

Onam School Holidays 2024; 10 days off for Onam

The examination will begin on September 3 for high school sections, and on September 4 for LP and UP sections and Plus Two.

The school will be closed on September 13 for the Onam holiday. The education department also announced that schools will open on the 23rd. Onam holiday is 10 days.

Haryana assembly polls postponed to October 5

Along with this, the counting of votes in Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana has been postponed from October 4 to October 8. The Election Commission has accepted the demand of the Bishnoi community for the change in the election dates. The Bishnoi community had demanded that the polling date be changed in view of the centuries-old Asoj Amavasi festival held in memory of Guru Jambheshwar. The Haryana BJP leadership also approached the commission pointing out that holidays before and after October 1 would affect the polling percentage.

The All India Bishnoi Mahasabha had pointed out that the community members would not be able to participate if the polls were held in the days following the visit to commemorate Guru Jambheshwar. Places like Sirsa, Hisar and Fatehabad in Haryana are the strongholds of the Bishnoi sect.

Suspect arrested for stabbing bus conductor in Kalamassery

Kalamasery: The suspect who stabbed the conductor while alighting passengers from a private bus was arrested. Anish (34), a conductor of Hidayat Group’s Astra bus, was killed in Panchayat Puthankolani, a native of Idukki. The accused Minoop Biju, who escaped through the alley towards Moolepadam, was arrested by the police in the evening. The police said that the reason for the murder was enmity over teasing his girlfriend.

The incident took place around 12 noon in front of the HMT Junction Juma Masjid in Kalamassery. The bus going from Vyttila via Medical College to Aluva ended its afternoon trip at HMT intersection yesterday. Only a few people were on the bus. As people were getting off, they ran into the bus and without any provocation stabbed the conductor with a knife he was carrying. After the stabbing, the accused got off the bus and ran. He wore a mask to avoid identification. The footage of the young man running with a knife was obtained from a nearby CCTV camera.

Anish was taken to the hospital but died. Anish was stabbed in the chest. In the attempt to stab him again, he suffered injuries to his hand and neck.
