E-auctions will be conducted at various timber depots under the Thiruvananthapuram Timber Sales Division. The items to be auctioned include teak and other types of timber. An Earnest Money Deposit (EMD) of ₹50,000 is required for teak, and ₹25,000 for other timber varieties.

Abdul Rahim’s release to be delayed; case postponed again

The release of Abdul Rahim, a native of Kozhikode, Farokh Kodampuzha, who has been in a Riyadh jail for 19 years in the Saudi boy’s murder case, will be delayed. The matter of his release has not been decided yet. The criminal court in Riyadh has postponed the case for the eleventh time. The sitting began at 8.30 am on Monday but was postponed to another day. Abdul Rahim and the defense lawyers participated in the online court from jail.

Abdul Rahim, who arrived in Riyadh on November 28, 2006 at the age of 26, is in prison for the death of the 15-year-old son of Saudi citizen Faiz Abdullah Abdurahman Al-Shahri, who was sponsored by him, while working on December 24. Rahim has been imprisoned in Iskcon Prison in Riyadh for 19 years. However, the court had absolved the death penalty five months ago after the prosecution accepted compensation and pardoned him. The pending case under public law is causing the prison release to drag on indefinitely.

1.5 crore Saudi riyals (over 34 crore Indian rupees) collected by Malayalis worldwide were given as compensation to the family of the deceased Saudi boy. Following that, they pardoned him and the court overturned the death sentence

Belgium has confirmed the arrest of diamond merchant Mehul Choksi, an accused in the Punjab National Bank fraud. Belgium said that Mehul Choksi was arrested on April 12 and that India has filed an extradition request for the accused.

Mehul Choksi is one of the accused in the Rs 13,850 crore bank fraud case. He had fled the country before the multi-crore fraud that shook the entire banking sector of the country was exposed.

Earlier, international media had reported that diamond merchant Mehul Choksi was living in the Belgian port city of Antwerp with his wife Preeti Choksi. PTI had reported on Saturday that he was arrested after this. Mehul Choksi and his nephew Nirav Modi committed the bank fraud. India had declared Nirav Modi a financial criminal in 2019.

Huge drug bust in Gujarat; Coast Guard seizes drugs worth Rs 1,800 crore

Drugs worth Rs 1,800 crore have been seized in Gujarat. About 300 kg of methamphetamine was seized. The drugs were seized by the Coast Guard.

ATS Inspector GM Patel said that there was an attempt to smuggle about 400 kg of drugs to Tamil Nadu. The authorities said that the seized drug cache will be shifted to Porbandar for detailed examination. Meanwhile, the details of the accused involved in the incident have not been released yet. Drugs worth crores have been seized from Gujarat in recent times.

The operation was conducted in the sea near the International Maritime Boundary Line based on intelligence. The operation was launched after the Gujarat ATS provided information about an attempt to smuggle drugs. The ICG ship, which was deployed in a multi-mission role in the North Maharashtra-South Gujarat maritime area, was working quickly to intercept the suspicious boat.

When the ICG ship approached the boat, the boat’s occupants tried to throw the drug cargo into the sea and fled towards the border. The ICG ship immediately sent a team on board to recover the abandoned contraband and also pursued and apprehended the escaped boat.

80 people died due to lightning in Bihar in 72 hours

Patna: The death toll due to lightning in Bihar has risen to 80 in the last 3 days. The highest number of deaths (23) has been reported from Nalanta district. Deaths have also occurred in Bhojpur, Siwan, Gaya, Patna, Sheikhpura, Jehnabad, Gopalganj, Muzaffarpur, Arwal, Nawada and Bhagalpur.

In the last 2 days alone, 66 people have died. This is the second time in 4 years that so many people have died in a single day. Before this, around 90 people died due to lightning in June 2020. In 2023 alone, 275 people died due to lightning in Bihar.

The Disaster Management Department said that 250 deaths have been recorded in Bihar due to natural disasters in the last 5 years. The government expresses its deepest condolences to the families of those who died due to lightning, Bihar Disaster Management Minister Vijay Kumar Mandal told reporters.

He appealed to the people to strictly follow the instructions of the Disaster Management Department during adverse weather conditions.
