Wayanad: The District Medical Officer has issued a warning urging residents of Wayanad to exercise caution after a Nipah case was confirmed in the Malappuram district. Last year, a study conducted by the ICMR found Nipah virus antibodies in fruit bats within Wayanad district.
Currently, a special alert has been issued as there is a possibility of Nipah outbreaks during the fruit bat breeding season.
The Medical Officer stated that all health centers have been instructed to monitor for symptoms of the disease and report them. The DMO also informed that the health sector in the district is conducting surveillance activities against Nipah and emphasized the importance of taking preventive measures and maintaining vigilance against zoonotic diseases like the Nipah virus.
