Kochi : In the aftermath of the MSC LS 3 vessel mishap near the Kochi coast, the High Court has instructed port authorities at Vizhinjam to detain another vessel owned by the MSC shipping company, named MSC Manasa F. The directive was issued by a division bench of the High Court in response to a petition filed by the Cashew Export Promotion Council.
The petition claims that cashew stored in a container onboard the ill-fated vessel was lost, leading to damages estimated at ₹6 crore. The court is set to review the petition again later this afternoon.
Simultaneously, the High Court has emphasized the need for strict action from the government regarding the incident. The court observed that both the state and central governments have the authority to take legal action. It questioned the rationale behind spending public funds on such shipping accidents and asserted that the losses should be recovered from the shipping company responsible.
