New Delhi: The Supreme Court has granted bail to Kiran Kumar, the husband of Vismaya, who died by suicide at her matrimonial home allegedly due to dowry harassment. The court’s decision came while considering a petition requesting a stay on the sentence until the Kerala High Court rules on the appeal. Kiran Kumar had approached the High Court claiming the charge of abetment to suicide does not hold and sought a stay on his sentence. Since the High Court had not delivered a verdict on the petition even after two years, he approached the Supreme Court. The apex court issued an order staying the sentence and granted bail to Kiran until the High Court issues its verdict. The bail comes with strict conditions, including a prohibition on speaking to the media or giving interviews. Kiran Kumar had earlier been sentenced to ten years in prison and had appealed against the conviction.
