E-Pass Now Mandatory for Travelers Visiting Valparai from November 1

Valparai

An e-pass system is being made mandatory for all visitors entering Valparai, a popular hill tourism area nestled in the Anamalai Tiger Reserve, starting tomorrow, November 1, 2025. This regulation is being enforced following a directive from the Madras High Court to regulate tourist entry into the sensitive ecological region.

Travelers can register for the mandatory e-pass through the official website: www.tnepass.tn.gov.in/home.

For visitors traveling from Kerala, registration and inspection facilities have also been set up at the two entry points on the Coimbatore district border:

  1. The checkpost at the left bank of the Sholayar Dam (via Mazhukkupara).
  2. The Aliyar checkpost.

Revenue, local self-government, police, and Forest Department officials have been assigned to these locations to facilitate registration and verification of the e-passes.

1. Additional Regulations

The District Collectorate has also issued a separate notice announcing a strict ban on the use and transport of plastic materials by visitors, stating that any plastic items found will be confiscated.

Key exemptions and conditions include:

  • Vehicles with a registered address within the Valparai Taluk are required to register for the e-pass only once.
  • Government buses and official vehicles are exempt from the new e-pass requirement.

The extension of the e-pass mandate to Valparai follows similar requirements already in place for the Nilgiris district and Kodaikanal.
