Centre Renames PMO Complex as Seva Teerth

New Delhi: The Central Government has decided to name the newly constructed complex that will house the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) as Seva Teerth. The complex, built as part of the Central Vista redevelopment project, is intended to replace the South Block, where the PMO has functioned for the past seventy-eight years.

Along with the PMO, the complex will accommodate the Cabinet Secretariat, the National Security Council Secretariat and India House, a venue for high-level diplomatic discussions. Three buildings are being constructed near Vayu Bhavan as part of Executive Enclave-1, and the PMO will move into the first of these buildings, now renamed Seva Teerth-1.

Originally referred to as the Executive Enclave, the complex has been renamed to reflect the philosophy that governance is a service rather than power, with “Seva” meaning service and “Teerth” denoting a sacred place. The government had earlier renamed Raj Bhavans as Lok Bhavans, the Central Secretariat as Kartavya Bhavan, Rajpath as Kartavya Path, and Race Course Road as Lok Kalyan Marg. Officials said these renamings signify a shift in the government’s mindset toward service and duty.
