Thirty years later, France has a female Prime Minister

Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron has appointed Labor Minister Elizabeth Bourne as Prime Minister.The second female prime minister in 30 years

The appointment follows the resignation of current Prime Minister Jean-Castes. Jean Castes’ resignation comes ahead of Macron’s move to make a major cabinet reshuffle after the election. Earlier, Macron had said that he wanted a woman from the left and an environmentalist to be prime minister.

Elizabeth Borneo has been Minister of Labor in the Macron Cabinet since 2020. He also served as Minister of Transport and Minister of Environmental Transformation. Earlier, in 1992, a woman Prime Minister came to power for the first time in the country. Her name was Edith Cresson. She served only from May 1991 to April 1992.
