Thiruvananthapuram: Heavy rains are expected in the state for the next two days, the Meteorological department said. The low-pressure area in the Gulf of Mannar continues to cause heavy rainfall. Orange alert was issued in four districts following the warning of heavy rains.

The orange alert was issued in Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Malappuram districts. A yellow alert has been declared in eight districts. A yellow alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, and Wayanad districts. The Met Office said people should be vigilant as there is a possibility of heavy thunderstorms and the ban on fishermen going to sea will continue.

Meanwhile, rains continued in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu and along the Cauvery coast. Cyclone Burevi, which continues in the Gulf of Mannar, became a weaker and weaker low-pressure area. With this, a rain warning was issued for Kerala and Puducherry coasts. About 1.5 lakh people were evacuated from the coastal areas.
