New Delhi: The central government should reconsider the internet restriction in Kashmir said the Supreme Court. All decisions should be immediately reviewed by issuing regulations. Justice NV Ramana, who presided over the function, said that the panel should review its regulatory decisions said the bench. The three-member bench includes Subhash Reddy, B.R. Gawai and Justice Ramana.
The court also said that the reasons for the ban in Kashmir should be informed. The court asked the Center to submit the information in writing. The Supreme Court pointed out that 144 is not an instrument to suppress dissent and that the restrictions cannot be extended indefinitely.
Internet service is part of the fundamental right. The Court noted that the right to the Internet is part of Article 19 of the Constitution for the right of the people to freedom of expression. Internet services should be banned according to the circumstances. The three-member bench said that the court aims to ensure the rights of its citizens.
The Supreme Court’s order comes on a petition filed by Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad and others.
