Flooding in Indonesia

Jakarta: The floods in Jakarta, Indonesia, have killed 47 people. The floods have affected more than ten districts in the Indonesian capital city of Jakarta. Most of the rivers in the border areas, such as Bekasi, Bogor, Depok, and Lebak, flowed.

Landslides are also severe in the area. Tens of thousands of homes were flooded. More than 4 lakh people were displaced in relief camps in Jakarta alone. Disaster management spokesman Wibowo said water levels in some areas were still above six meters and rescue efforts were in progress.

This is a situation where nearly two lakh people cannot return home. Most of the city is filled with more than six feet of mud. The heavy rains, which started on January 1, are continuing. The Met Office warns that the rains will continue till next month.
