Panayikulam SIMI camp case: HC acquitted accused

Kochi: The High Court of Kerala acquitted the accused in Panayikulam SIMI camp case today. The five persons were found accused in SIMI camp case by the NIA court has been acquitted. The court said that evidence against them is not enough to make a conviction. The HC said that it is did not proved that the Panayikulam camp was conducted by SIMI. The appeal by the NIA was rejected by the trial court. The HC upheld the verdict in which 11 accused were acquitted. A division bench comprising Justices AK Shafiq and Justice Ashok Menon pronounced the verdict.

The NIA sentenced a 14-year jail term to Rasik and Shaduli. Others have been convicted for 12 years.  As a banned organization, the Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) has convened a meeting in Panayakkulam on August 15, 2006, at Aluva, was the case.
