KOCHI: In a major crackdown on organized crime in the region, notorious gangster Aneesh, widely known as ‘Maradu Aneesh’, has been arrested by the police. The arrest was executed by the Maradu Police under the stringent provisions of the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act (KAAPA).
Following the arrest order, which invokes a one-year detention period under KAAPA, Aneesh was immediately moved to the Viyyur Central Jail.
The recent police action stems from an incident last month in Elamakkara/Eloor, where a gang allegedly linked to Aneesh threatened a local resident on a two-wheeler. Realizing that the police were closing in, Aneesh made plans to flee to Mysuru, Karnataka.
However, in a coordinated move, the police summoned him to the Nedumbassery Police Station under the pretext of questioning in another matter, where the Maradu Police surreptitiously recorded his official arrest.
Maradu Aneesh faces over 50 criminal cases across Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, ranging from extortion to gang violence. Notably, out of the five most recent cases registered against him in Kerala, four involve attempt-to-murder charges.
