NEW DELHI — The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Saturday officially called off its month-long protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar “with immediate effect,” advising hundreds of student supporters to peacefully wrap up the demonstration and return home.
The breakthrough came during a joint government-CJP press conference this evening, following the high-profile resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan as Union Education Minister—which had been the core, non-negotiable demand of the satirical political outfit.
CJP spokespersons Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, flanked by Union Health Minister JP Nadda and Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh, addressed media persons to confirm that the 36-day-old agitation had formally concluded. The spokespersons stated the party chose to end the protest in “good faith” following key written and verbal assurances from the central government.
Key Commitments Agreed Upon by the Government:
- Education Minister’s Exit: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stepped down from his post, fulfilling CJP’s primary demand.
- Withdrawal of Police Action: All police cases and FIRs registered against protesting students will be withdrawn, with assurances of zero future victimization.
- Maximum Compensation: The government promised maximum permitted financial assistance to the families of students who tragically died by suicide amid the NEET paper leak controversy.
“Our Demands Were Basic, Not Radical”
Speaking at the joint press conference, CJP spokesperson Saurav Das urged all demonstrators to return home peacefully.
“We urge all protesters to go home as the government has accepted our demands,” Das said, speaking alongside Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh.
Co-spokesperson Ashutosh Ranka reflected on the victory for the youth-led movement, noting that the resolution followed 36 consecutive days of demonstrations.
“The government has accepted all our demands after 36 days of protest. We urge everyone to peacefully withdraw from the protest sites,” Ranka stated. “Our demands were not radical but basic, and the government has now accepted them.”
