Kochi: In a major crackdown on explicit content online, the Kerala Police has officially shut down the popular YouTube channel of controversial YouTuber Nihad, widely known as ‘Thoppi’. The decisive action was taken following a formal report submitted by the police cyber wing regarding the upload of obscene material.
IT Act Case Registered by Cyber Police
The Ernakulam Rural Cyber Police registered a case against Thoppi under the Information Technology (IT) Act. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the YouTuber had posted nude videos involving his friends across his social media networks.
The investigation was initiated based on a formal complaint filed by Advocate Sreejith Perumana. Following the complaint, the cyber cell closely monitored and analyzed Thoppi’s social media footprints before enforcing the channel shutdown.
Police Oppose Anticipatory Bail
Labeling the offense as a “highly serious crime,” the Ernakulam Rural Police have strictly opposed Thoppi’s anticipatory bail plea. A detailed report highlighting the severity of the cyber law violation has been submitted to the court to prevent the accused from securing immediate relief.
