Woman and Newborn Found Dead in Lodge Room; Auto Driver Detained

THRISSUR: In a heartbreaking incident, a woman and her newborn baby were found dead inside a lodge room in Thrissur town following childbirth. The deceased has been identified as Jyothi (30), a native of Edamuttam, Thrissur. Police have detained the woman’s friend, an auto-rickshaw driver, and are currently questioning him.

Jyothi had checked into the lodge on June 27 at around 2:30 PM. Lodge employees stated that they were completely unaware of the woman’s pregnancy. However, they noted that the auto-rickshaw driver was familiar to them from previous visits.

A Grim Discovery Behind Locked Doors

The incident came to light after the auto driver tried calling Jyothi repeatedly. When she failed to answer her phone, he grew suspicious and reached the lodge to check on her. Finding the room locked from the inside, he knocked continuously, but received no response.

Sensing trouble, he alerted the lodge staff, who subsequently informed the local police. Personnel from the Fire and Rescue Services along with the police rushed to the spot and forced open the door, only to find the tragic sight of the mother and child lying dead.

Investigation Underway

The exact nature of the relationship between the deceased woman and the detained auto driver remains unclear.

“The cause of death is currently unknown. A clear picture will emerge only after we receive the post-mortem report,” an investigating official stated.

The police have completed initial inquest procedures and have sealed the room for further forensic examination. A detailed investigation is ongoing.
