Nipah Virus Confirmed in Kerala’s Kozhikode; 40-Year-Old Tests Positive

KOZHIKODE: A new case of Nipah virus infection has been confirmed in the Kozhikode district. A 40-year-old native of Feroke tested positive for the virus during preliminary examinations conducted at the Kozhikode Government Medical College.

The patient is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital and will soon be shifted to the special isolation ward at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital. According to reports, the individual had been exhibiting symptoms of high fever and encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) for the past week.

In light of the state’s previous experiences with Nipah virus outbreaks, the Health Department has significantly strengthened its vigilance and monitoring systems across the region.

Authorities have strongly urged the public not to spread unnecessary panic or rumors, especially on social media, while awaiting the final confirmatory reports. They have requested citizens to stay calm and strictly adhere to the official guidelines and instructions issued by the health department.
