NEW DELHI/THIRUVANANTHAPURAM — In a landmark shift for Kerala politics, the Congress High Command has officially named V.D. Satheesan as the next Chief Minister of Kerala.
The announcement was made by Deepa Dasmunsi, the AICC General Secretary in charge of Kerala, during a press conference in Delhi. Reports suggest that the swearing-in ceremony is likely to take place this coming Monday.
A Historic Role Reversal
Following the Congress’s announcement, the CPI(M) moved quickly to finalize its leadership in the Assembly. In a significant move, the State Committee has elected Pinarayi Vijayan as the Leader of the Opposition. This marks the first time in his career that Vijayan will serve in this specific legislative role.
Discontent in the Congress Camp
The transition has not been without internal friction. Senior Congress leader and former Leader of the Opposition, Ramesh Chennithala, has reportedly expressed strong dissatisfaction over being overlooked for the Chief Minister’s post.
