MUMBAI: Veteran playback singer Asha Bhosle, 92, has been admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in South Mumbai after experiencing severe exhaustion and a chest infection.
Addressing the widespread rumors suggesting the singer had suffered a heart attack, her granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, took to X (formerly Twitter) to issue a clarification. She confirmed that the music icon was hospitalized primarily due to a chest infection and fatigue, strictly denying the reports of a cardiac event.
“She is under the careful observation of doctors and is doing fine. We request everyone to respect our family’s privacy during this time. We will share further updates soon,” Zanai stated in her post. Medical sources currently indicate that her condition is stable and there is no cause for major concern.
With a monumental career spanning over eight decades, Asha Bhosle remains one of the most celebrated and versatile voices in Indian cinema. She made her playback singing debut in a 1943 Marathi film and has since recorded thousands of memorable tracks across various Indian languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, and Malayalam.
In recognition of her unparalleled contribution to the music industry, the Government of India honored her with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second-highest civilian award, in 2008.
