Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for several districts in Kerala as the state braces for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. According to the latest bulletin released today, April 6, 2026, isolated heavy showers accompanied by gusty winds are expected to lash the state over the next few days.
Yellow Alert Districts (April 6, 2026)
The IMD has placed the following five districts under a Yellow Alert for today:
- Kollam
- Pathanamthitta
- Alappuzha
- Kottayam
- Idukki
A “Yellow Alert” signifies isolated heavy rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period. Residents in these areas are advised to remain cautious.
Thunderstorm and Wind Warning
The weather department warned that Kerala is likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph today.
Looking ahead, the IMD predicts that the rain activity will persist:
- From April 7 to April 10, 2026: Isolated places across Kerala are likely to witness continued thundershowers.
- Wind Speed: While today sees higher wind speeds, the intensity is expected to slightly decrease to 30–40 kmph in the following days.

- Avoid Water Bodies: Those engaged in fishing or bathing in rivers/lakes should return to safety immediately if clouds darken.
- Secure Loose Objects: Ensure that objects on terraces or yards that could be blown away by strong winds are tied down or moved inside.
