
KANNUR: Kerala Health Minister Veena George sustained injuries to her neck and hand during a black flag protest staged by Kerala Students Union (KSU) activists at the Kannur Railway Station. Following the incident, the minister was admitted to the Kannur District Hospital.
The incident occurred near the ticket counter when the minister arrived at the station to board the Vande Bharat Express. According to reports, protesters broke through the police security cordon and manhandled the minister. Consequently, her journey was cancelled.
Legislative Assembly Speaker A.N. Shamseer, who was accompanying the minister at the time, strongly condemned the attack. He urged the United Democratic Front (UDF) leadership to denounce the actions of the protesters. CPI(M) District Secretary M.V. Jayarajan also termed the incident highly objectionable and visited the minister at the hospital along with other party leaders.
The attack comes in the wake of a series of ongoing protests against the Health Minister in various parts of Kannur over the past few days.
