KOZHIKODE: The family of Deepak, a native of Govindapuram who committed suicide following a social media campaign against him, has approached the Chief Minister and the City Police Commissioner demanding stringent legal action. The family is calling for the woman, who accused Deepak of sexual harassment, to be charged with murder.
Deepak took his own life after a woman, who is also known as a public activist, posted a video on Instagram accusing him of sexual harassment inside a private bus in Payyannur. The video circulated widely on social media platforms.
According to Deepak’s relatives and friends, the allegations were entirely baseless. They stated that Deepak was deeply distressed by the “false” accusations spread online, which ultimately drove him to suicide. The family has declared they will pursue legal action to the fullest extent against the woman.
Police Deny Woman’s Claims
While the woman continued to stand by her allegations even after Deepak’s death, claiming she had reported the incident to the Vadakara Police, authorities have contradicted her statement. The Vadakara Police Inspector clarified that no such complaint was received, nor were they aware of any such incident, debunking the woman’s claim of prior official reporting.
Following the backlash and severe criticism on social media after Deepak’s death, the woman has reportedly deleted her Instagram and Facebook accounts.
The police have currently registered a case for unnatural death. Officials stated that further proceedings will follow a preliminary investigation into the complaint filed by Deepak’s family.
