Russia Withdraws from Nuclear Arms Treaty with U.S.

Russia has formally withdrawn from a key nuclear arms treaty with the United States. The decision follows orders from former U.S. President Donald Trump to deploy nuclear submarines near Russian territory. The treaty had banned both countries from using short- and medium-range missiles (500–5,500 km range). While the U.S. withdrew from the agreement in 2019, Russia had remained compliant until now. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov previously stated the treaty was no longer viable. The Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Cold War-era treaty limitations would no longer be honored.
