Dhaka: Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of the organization, have been banned in Bangladesh. Following the anti-reservation agitation in the country, the action is under the Anti-Terrorism Act. The ban followed the discovery of a conspiracy to unleash violence. Student organizations denied this. The ban comes as Jamaat-e-Islami is barred from contesting elections in Bangladesh. Around 150 people were killed in the nearby protest.
