Menstrual leave in Cusat; This is the first time in Kerala

Kochi:  Students of Kochi University of Science and Technology can now take menstrual leave. This is the first time in Kerala that a university has given this kind of menstrual leave.

The university authorities have decided to provide 2% additional leave benefit in each semester in CUSAT. At present only those who have 75% attendance can write the semester exam. If the attendance is less then the semester examination can be given if the medical certificate is provided. But a medical certificate is not required for menstrual leave.

Earlier, MG University had granted maternity leave to the students. This is the first time in Kerala that a university has granted maternity leave to female students.

9 people, including a Malayali doctor, have been arrested in a ganja case in Mangalore

Mangalore: Nine people, including a Malayali doctor, were arrested in the ganja case in Mangalore. They were arrested on the basis of the information received from the wholesalers who were arrested by the police.
Neel Kishorilal Ramji Shah, a resident of Bunds Hostel who came from London and is studying in Mangaluru, was arrested by the police while selling ganja the other day. Based on the information received from his phone, nine people including a Malayali doctor were arrested.

Mangaluru police arrested Dr. Sameer, a medical officer from Thrissur, Dr. Nadia Siraj, a medical internship student from Thiruvananthapuram, Dr. Manimaran Muthu, a medical surgeon from Tamil Nadu, Dr. Riya Chadha, a native of Chandigarh, and Dr. Riya Chadha, a native of Delhi.  Kshitij Gupta, Dr. Ira Basin from Pune, Dr. Varshini, third year MD psychiatry student Dr. Banu Dahiya and Muhammad Rauf from Bandwal Marippalla.

Those arrested were produced in court. They was taken into police custody for further investigation. The investigation is in progress focusing on the phone calls coming to Neil Kishorilal Ramji Shah’s phone. The police have received information that many people including Malayalis are his customers.

Mumbai: 10 dead after bus carrying pilgrims collides with truck in Maharashtra. Many people were injured in the accident. The accident took place at Pathare on the Nashik-Shirdi highway.

The injured were admitted to Sinnar Rural Hospital and Yashwant Hospital in Sinnar. Officials said the death toll could rise as the condition of some of the injured was critical.

The accident took place when the private luxury bus started from Ambernath in the Thane district and was on its way to the temple town of Shirdi in the Ahmednagar district.

The incident took place around 7 am near Patara Shivra in Sinnar tehsil of Nashik, 180 km from Mumbai. Initial reports said seven women, two small boys, and one man were among the dead.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced financial assistance of Rs 5. lakh each to the families of those who died in the accident. An inquiry has also been ordered into the incident.

Former Union Minister Sarath Yadav passed away

Gurugram:  Former Union Minister, former JD(U) president, and RJD leader Sharad Yadav (75) passed away. He died at the Fortis Memorial Research Institute in Gurugram. He was admitted to the hospital on Thursday afternoon due to age-related ailments.

Sarath Yadav was one of the young leaders who emerged in the 1970s through the ‘JP movement’ that swept across the country against Indira Gandhi’s authoritarian stances that trampled democracy. He has been elected seven times to the Lok Sabha and three times to the Rajya Sabha.

In 1989, he handled the textiles and food processing departments in the VP Singh government, and in 1999, he handled the aviation, labor, and food public distribution consumer affairs departments in the Vajpayee government. He was a Member of Parliament for 33 years. After the formation of Janata Dal (United) in 2003, he was the National President till 2016.

Nitish Kumar left JD(U) and joined RJD after joining BJP. In 2017, Sharad Yadav left the JDU after the JDU decided to go back to the BJP-led NDA. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Prime Minister Deve Gowda, and others have condoled the death of Sharad Yadav.

Quality of Basmati rice; Standards have been released by the Food Safety Authority

New Delhi: The Central Food Safety Authority (FSSAI) has released the quality and identification criteria for Basmati rice.

The notification states that the rice should have a natural aroma and should be free from artificial fragrance, artificial color, and polishing materials. The norms will come into effect from August 1.

The notified amendment to the Food Safety Act has specified the standards for all types of basmati rice including bran basmati rice, bran removed, parboiled bran rice, and parboiled and parboiled rice. The average length of basmati rice, other details, and quantity of non-basmati rice are covered in the Food Products Standards and Food Additives Regulations.

The average length of bran basmati rice should be seven mm. The length should be more than 6.61 mm if the bran has been changed and more than 12 mm if the rice has been cooked. Uric acid and moisture levels in rice have also been clarified. The uric acid level should be less than 100 mg/kg. In the case of broken rice also, all other norms apply except for length and size rules.

Gang-rape in Pantirangavu; Three people are in custody

Kozhikode: A 22-year-old girl was gang-raped in Pantirangavu. The accused raped the after giving juice was mixed with drugs, police said. Three people from Chevayur were taken into police custody in the incident. The search is on for one. A case has been registered against them.

The complaint is that she was gang-raped after being brought to the flat by pretending to be friends through social media.

Police recorded the woman’s detailed statement about the incident. After reaching the flat where the woman was taken and collecting evidence, the accused were taken into custody.

The accused will be arrested after detailed questioning.

Bird flu: Holiday for three schools in Chathamangalam today

Kannur: The district collector has declared a holiday for three schools in the area today (Friday) as bird flu has been confirmed in Chathamangalam. Dayapuram Residential School, REC Govt VHSS, and REC Govt HSS schools have been declared a holiday.

Bird flu was confirmed in a poultry farm in Chathamangalam panchayat during a test conducted at a high-security lab in Bhopal. The samples were sent for testing after becoming suspicious when the chickens became sick and died. 1800 chickens have already died due to the disease. There are more than five thousand chickens on the farm. As part of preventive measures, whole chickens will have to be culled.

Suicide attack in Kabul; Five people were killed

Kabul: Five people were killed in a suicide attack outside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Yesterday there was a shocking explosion in the Afghan capital. International media reported that many people were injured in the incident.

Kabul Police Chief Khalid Zadran said such an attack on the Muslim community was cowardly. He also responded that the country condemns the incident. Five deaths have been reported so far. The death toll is likely to rise further, he said. More than 40 people were seriously injured in the blast, according to some Afghan-based NGOs.

No terrorist organization has claimed responsibility for the incident. But the Taliban claim that the Islamic State of Khorasan is behind the attack. The Islamic State has carried out constant attacks since the Taliban took over the country.

Central Meteorological Department’s winter wave warning

New Delhi:  Central Meteorological Department again issued a winter wave warning. The weather department has predicted that there will be another winter wave in the northwestern states.

It is estimated that the winter wave will arrive by the 15th of this month.

Meanwhile, there was an avalanche in Jammu and Kashmir. The avalanche occurred in Baltal near the Ganderbal district. Officials said no one was injured in the avalanche. 23 trains are running late today due to heavy fog in North India.

The Central Meteorological Department has also warned that there is a possibility of fog in various states of North India in the next 24 hours. Along with the extreme cold, air pollution continues to be severe in Delhi.

WHO advises not to use Indian-made Marion Biotech cough syrup

Geneva: World health organization suggested not to use Indian-made Marion Biotech’s cough syrup after not providing quality proof documents. Cough syrups like Ambranol and Doc-1 Max are found not to have good quality to use for disease.

The action reports that 18 children died in Uzbekistan after consuming cough syrup. The World Health Organization warned that these drugs are reaching many countries through the black market.
