Low pressure over Bay of Bengal; Heavy rain in Kerala for the next 5 days

Thiruvananthapuram: Central Meteorological Department has warned that a low pressure has formed in the southwest Bay of Bengal. The low pressure is likely to move over Odisha in a west-northwest direction during the next 2 days.

The Central Meteorological Department has informed that there is a possibility of widespread rain and heavy rainfall at isolated places in Kerala for the next 5 days.

Meanwhile, the Central Meteorological Department said that there is a chance of light rain at isolated places in Trivandrum, Kollam, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Thrissur and Kasargod districts of the state and moderate rain at isolated places in other districts.

Manipur Incident; The National Commission for Women takes suo moto cognizance

Imphal: In Manipur, the National Commission for Women has filed suo moto cognizance in the case of two women being stripped naked on the road by a mob. Khushbu Sundar, a member of the Women’s Commission and a BJP leader, responded that the video was circulating two months ago and the safety and health of the victims is important in the current situation.

The Supreme Court has also registered suo moto. The court criticized that it was not possible in a democratic society to make women naked. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said that the footage that has come out is sad and strict action should be taken. The court also directed to explain what steps the central and state governments have taken in the incident.

The video was taken in Kangpokpi district, 35 km from the capital Imphal, where two women were stripped naked on the road. After the video went viral on social media, many people criticized it.

The video shows two naked Kuki women being led by a mob through a road to a field. The violence was done by Meitei sect. The young women had filed a complaint on May 18. In the complaint, it is said that the younger girl was brutally tortured. The girl who survived says that she saw four policemen sitting in a car and watching the violence. “They didn’t do anything to help us,” she said. Their father and brother were killed in this mob attack.

At the same time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that what happened to the daughters of Manipur can never be forgiven. He assured that the culprits will be brought to justice and will go to the limit of the law to punish the accused.

Landslides in Maharashtra’s Raigad District

Landslide death toll rises to 10 in Maharashtra’s Raigad district. Local residents say more than 100 people are trapped under the debris. Incessant rains in the last 24 hours have wreaked havoc in the region.

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced a financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of those who died in the disaster. He said that the Maharashtra government will bear the medical expenses of the injured. But Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that efforts are being made to rescue the trapped people.

The landslide occurred in Irshalwadi village of Khalapur tehsil of Raigad. According to preliminary information, there are 48 families here. About 75 people have been relocated.

Case against film actor Vinayakan

Kochi: Ernakulam North Police has registered a case against actor Vinayakan on the complaint that he insulted the late former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy through Facebook Live. The case is for disrespecting the dead body by hurting sentiments and making provocative statements.

DCC Ernakulam District General Secretary Ajit Ameer Bawa filed a complaint with Central ACP C Jayakumar demanding action against Vinayakan who insulted Oommen Chandy. Apart from this, North Police received four complaints. Vinayakan raised allegations like who is this Oommen Chandy and why three days off through a Facebook live video. After widespread protests, the actor withdrew the video.

CHANDRAYAAN-3 UPDATE: A STEP CLOSER TO THE MOON

The Scientists of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) through their Twitter account announced that the fourth orbit-raising maneuver (Earth-bound perigee firing) was successfully performed by ISTRAC/ISRO, Bengaluru.

India is going to celebrate International Moon Day 2023 so to make propelling Chandrayaan-3 is now a step closer to the find destination of the Moon.

The exciting news coming from the ISRO is that Chandrayaan-3 has attained an orbit of 71351 km × 233 km orbit, as intended.

The next firing is planned for July 25th, 2023 between 2 and 3 pm IST. Chandrayaan-3 will enter the Moon’s gravitational field only after reaching a distance of about 4 Lakh kilometers in 5 stages.

According to the calculation of ISRO Chandrayaan-3 will be landing on the lunar surface on August 23. So the whole country and the officials of ISRO are waiting for the success story.

Transformer Explosion in Uttarakhand Causes 15 Deaths

Breaking News:

The big shocking news now coming out is that 15 people have died due to electrocution near the Alakananda River of Uttarakhand. The ten employees who were working for the Namami Gange Project were included in this accident and reported dead. The incident happened in Uttarakhand’s Chamoli around 11:30 A.M.

According to the initial findings, a Sub-Inspector and three home guard personnel and the employees who were working on the Namami Gange project are the victims of the accident. Also, six others have faced severe burn injuries and two persons are in critical condition.

Due to the bad weather and heavy rainfall the electricity in Uttarakhand was in the wrong condition and there was a loss of electricity in the area of Chamoli. The people who are now reported dead were working on the electricity line to restore electricity and during the work, a transformer exploded causing the tragic incident.

As per the initial report, the root cause of the incident needs to be discovered and the senior officials of disaster management visited the incident spot. Also, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand has instructed to conduct a magisterial enquiry.

CHANDRAYAAN-3 successfully completed the third orbit-raising maneuver

Today the scientists of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) through Twitter tweeted that the Chandrayaan-3 had successfully performed the third orbit-raising maneuver. The ISRO also mentioned that the spacecraft has attained a 51400 km x 228 km orbit as planned.

The next firing is planned for July 20.2023 between 2 and 3 pm IST. The second orbit-raising maneuver of Chandrayaan-3 was successfully completed yesterday.

Chandrayaan-3 was victoriously launched on July 14 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, gearing towards a smooth land on the unexplored south pole of the Moon. If Chandrayaan-3 is managing to land on the lunar surface then India can find a spot among the United States, China and Russia’s rank list.

The People’s Leader: Oommen Chandy Passed Away

Former Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had passed away. He served the people 2 times as the Chief Minister. Also, he was elected as the Leader of the Opposition in Kerala. His kindness and willingness to help the poor made him a popular leader who has been called ‘Jana Nayakan’.

No one can forget Oommen Chandy’s rule which has written many new chapters in the Congress party and in Kerala politics. Oomen Chandy has bravely started the Jana Sambarka Parupadi, an example of unity and hope. At the age of 79, he bid a forever farewell to the people of Kerala and to Kerala politics.

PERSONAL LIFE:

Oommen Chandy was born on 31st October 1943 to K.O.Chandy and Baby Chandy in Kumarakom in Kottayam district of Kerala. In 1977, he was engaged to Mariamma Oommen who is now a retired Bank Employee. Oommen Chandy acquired his pre-university degree at CMS College, Kottayam. Moreover, he gained a B.A degree Economics from St. Berchmans College, Changanassery. Furthermore, Chandy completed L.L.B from the Government Law College, Ernakulam.

POLITICS:

Oommen Chandy functioned as the 10th Chief Minister of Kerala from 2004 to 2006 and further from 2011 to 2016. Likewise, he was also performed as the Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Legislative Assembly between 2006 and 2011. He is also known for the longest serving MLA in Kerala.


WHY OOMMEN CHANDY IS CALLED AS ‘PEOPLE’S LEADER’?

In 2012, the city of Kozhikode in Kerala witnessed the beginning of a new step. The ‘Public Relations Program’ started under the leadership of Shri Oommen Chandy is an example of great care that Kerala has seen till date. More than 11 lakhs people attended Oommen Chandy’s public relations program and it was the largest Maha Adalat hosted by a Chief Minister in the world. Oommen Chandy is a brave leader who stood alone for 12 to 19 hours for the people who won him without even considering his health. Since 2011, the Oommen Chandy public relations program has been carried out for three consecutive years in three phases for Kerala.

Oommen Chandy read and studied every petition given by the people and made every possible solution for it. Oommen Chandy, who formed a public relations program that stood guard for the people, was awarded the Nation Public Service Award by the United Nations in 2013. 242 crores in financial assistance to the people of Kerala through public relation programs. It remains to be seen whether there will be another Chief Minister in Kerala who has gone down to the people and understood their problems and struggles.


REMARKABLE AWARDS:

Oommen Chandy was honoured the United Nations Public Service Award in 2013 considering for “Preventing and Combating Corruption in the Public Service” in the Asia-Pacific region. He also received an award by UN Under Secretary General Wu Hongbo for his mass contact programme where he was selected among entries from 50 Asia-Pacific countries.

SOCIAL WORKS:

 Some of his mentionable initiatives for the development of kerala are Vallarpadam Transhipments Terminal, Vizhinjam Port, Smart City, Metro Rail, Capital City Development, Kerala State Transport Project, Sabarimala Master Plan, Kannur International Airport, and Trivandrum International Airport and so on.

DEATH:

Oommen Chandy passed away in a hospital in Bengaluru on the morning of 18th July after a prolonged illness. Chandy was undergoing treatment for cancer since 2019 and his death was announced by his son in Facebook around 4.30 .a.m. As a mark of respect Kerala Government has declared two days of bereavement and Tuesday as a public holiday including all government offices and educational institutions. The exams of the Mahatma Gandhi, Kerala and Calicut Universities which are to be conducted on July 18 have also been cancelled.

The funeral of Oommen Chandy, who passed away on Tuesday, will be held at 2.30 pm on July 20 at Puthuppally Church, Kottayam. The mortal remains will be lifted off to Thiruvananthapuram from Bengaluru by Tuesday noon and will be commemorated  for the public to pay respect at the Durbal Hall, St. George’s Orthodox Cathedral and Indira Bhavan in the capital. The body will be displaced to his residence ‘Puthuppally House’ by night. On Tuesday morning for one hour Chandy’s body will be premised for public viewing at the residence of former minister T John at Indira Nagar in Bengaluru where Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will pay their respects to the leader.
