Vakkom Purushothaman, Congress Leader and Former Governor, Passes Away at 90

Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala (India) – Vakkom Purushothaman, a veteran Congress leader and former governor of Kerala, passed away on Monday at the age of 90. He had been suffering from old age-related ailments for some time.

Purushothaman was born in Vakkom, a small town in Kerala, in 1928. He joined the Congress party in 1947 and served in various party positions over the years. He was elected to the Kerala Legislative Assembly in 1967 and served as minister for education and culture in the state government.

In 2011, Purushothaman was appointed governor of Kerala by the Union government. He served in this position until 2016.

Purushothaman was a respected leader and a strong advocate for secularism and social justice. He was also a keen historian and writer. He authored several books on Kerala history and politics.

His death is a major loss to the Congress party and to the people of Kerala.

Massive drug hunt in labor camps in Ernakulam

Kochi:  Prohibited tobacco products were seized during the excise inspection conducted at the labor camps of guest workers in Ernakulam. Excise seized around 60 kg of banned tobacco products. It is concluded that they were selling drugs at home. The inspection was conducted in various labor camps including Aluva and Perumbavoor. The excise officers of the district were conducting the inspection in rotation in different units.

Meanwhile, the court will consider the custody plea of Asfaq Alam, accused in the murder case of a five-year-old girl in Aluva, today. The petition is being considered by the Ernakulam Special POCSO Court. The police want to keep Asfaq in custody for seven days.

The accused has been remanded in custody for taking evidence and questioning. The court will hand over the custody application filed in the Aluva Magistrate Court to the POCSO court in the morning. Further proceedings till filing of charge sheet in the case will proceed under the supervision of Ernakulam POCSO Court.

According to the remand report, the five-year-old girl was brutally killed.  According to the remand report of the police, the child’s death occurred during the rape. The remand report charges nine sections against the accused, ranging from IPC 377 sexual exploitation to IPC 302 murder.

Manipur Violence; Women protest against deployment of police in Moreli

Imphal:  Protests continue against the deployment of more police in Manipur’s Moreli. The government decided to deploy more police after the houses of Meiteis in More were set on fire. But more than 400 women stopped the police who reached the spot. The governor urged everyone to come together to restore peace and harmony in the state. Meanwhile, after Manipur, the Mizoram government has started taking steps to register the fingerprints of those who came illegally from Myanmar.

The Supreme Court will hear cases related to the Manipur riots today. Consider the case of women being stripped naked and gang-raped by the Supreme Court. The central government has informed the Supreme Court in an affidavit that the case has been handed over to the CBI. The central government wants the case to be transferred outside Manipur. The decision of the court in this regard may be taken today. Petitions filed by various organizations will also be considered.

Manipur Violence: 12-year-old girl injured in firing

Imphal: A 12-year-old girl was injured in a shooting incident in Manipur. Salima, a native of Kwakta, was injured. On the way to school, the child was shot in the back of the body and admitted to the hospital. Salima is a third-class student of Radiant Public School.

At the same time, the Supreme Court will consider the petitions filed today asking for steps to be taken for peace in Manipur. The Supreme Court is also considering a suo moto in the case of two women being stripped naked and brutally tortured in Manipur. A two-judge bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud is hearing the petitions. The Manipur government will inform the Supreme Court about the steps taken in the case. It has been decided to inform the court that the case has been handed over to the CBI and the recommendation to conduct the trial outside Manipur.

The time to apply for the visa is 4 days. 146.90 dirhams i.e. 3300 rupees in India as consular fee. A-Visa can be used to visit Russia for tourism, commercial purposes etc. Single Entry E-Visa is valid for 60 days. According to this, you can stay in the country for up to 16 days.

Another case against Shajan Skariah

Thiruvananthapuram: Another case against Marunadan Malayali editor Shajan Skariah. The case was taken on the complaint of PV Anawar MLA. The complaint is that the wireless of the police force was leaked. Thiruvananthapuram Cyber Crime Police registered the case. The case has been filed under Official Secrets Act, Telegraph Act and IT Act.

PV Anwar filed a complaint with DGP. A complaint was also sent to the Prime Minister through e-mail, alleging that it was a matter affecting national security. In the complaint, Anwar had claimed that he had the technical systems to hack the wireless messages, phone messages and e-mails of the state police force and other central forces and demanded that it be checked.

The complaint said that the passport of Shajan Skariah, who is leaking communication messages of highly secret government systems, which is a threat to national security, should be checked and his foreign dealings should also be investigated. In the complaint, the MLA also raised the suspicion that he and his relatives and brothers frequently travel abroad to transmit the leaked messages to other places. MLA PV Anwar also pointed out in the complaint that it is suspected that the phone conversations of the President, Prime Minister, intelligence officers, senior officials including the Chief Minister, prominent industrialists and High Court judges were hacked.

Blast in Pakistan; 35 people were killed; 200 people were injured

Islamabad: 35 killed in bomb blast in Pakistan. Around 50 people were injured in the blast. The bomb exploded during a rally. The death toll is likely to rise. The blast took place at a convention of Jamiat Ulamai Islam Fazal (JUIF) activists.

Police informed that more than 200 injured people were shifted to the nearby hospital. The blast happened before the senior party leader could start speaking.

Soldier missing in Kashmir

Srinagar: A soldier went missing in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district. Javed Ahmed (25), a soldier of Jammi Kashmir Light Infantry Regiment, is missing. Javed had come home for the Eid holiday.

Javed went to buy goods from the market around 6:30 pm on Saturday and did not reach home till late. After the investigation, the car was found near the market. There are reports of blood stains on the car. Kashmir police have registered a case and arrested some people in the incident. Security forces have also launched a search. The family suspects that Javed was abducted by terrorists. The family members released the video requesting Javed’s release.

Kerala Schools to Follow Strict Guidelines for Temporary Teacher Appointments

Thiruvananthapuram: Public Education and Employment Department Minister V Sivankutty said that the temporary appointment of teachers in schools should be through employment exchange.  This has already been clarified by the Public Education Department.  Candidates will be interviewed on rank basis from the list provided by the Employment Exchange for the temporary appointment.  No complaint regarding temporary appointment has been received so far.  Strict action will be taken if received.  Other options should be sought only if no eligible candidates are received from the Employment Exchange.  First newspaper advertisement should be given for this.  Then the interview board should be formed with experienced people.  This interview board shall interview the candidates and publish the rank list including those who are capable and qualified.  Minister Sivankutty also suggested that the rank list should be displayed on the school notice board.

Cracker Factory Exploded: 9 People Died In Tamil Nadu

The cracker factory explosion happened in the Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu, due to the intensity of the blast a hotel nearby collapsed and four other buildings got damaged.

9 people died and 12 were critically injured in the blast of a cracker factory in the Krishnagiri district of Tamil Nadu. Roughly 4 buildings collapsed and several people got injured.

The rash explosion came up in the firecracker manufacturing factory in Pazhayapettai in the district of Krishnagiri resulting in damages to nearby houses and shops.

In Krishnagiri, the explosion of a fire factory took place on 29th July (Saturday) where a hotel building collapsed and four additional buildings were also damaged. 9 people died and many were trapped, and several got injured. Likewise, 9 people including 2 women were admitted to Krishnagiri Government hospital 

“Deeply saddened to know about the tragic fire accident in a crackers factory in Krishnagiri (Tamil Nadu). I extend my sincerest condolences to the family members of the deceased and pray for the speedy recovery of those injured” tweeted Amit Shah.

Governor RN Ravi shared his condolence message and tweeted “Deeply saddened by the loss of valuable lives in the mishap at the firecracker godown in Boganapalli, Krishnagiri District. My prayers and thoughts are with the bereaved families. Wishing a speedy recovery to those injured”.

The Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi through Twitter announced that Rs 2 Lakh from PMNRF would be given to the victims and Rs 50,000 to the injured ones. 

Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin announced  Rs.3 Lakh will be given as compensation to the dead victims, Rs.1 Lakh Compensation amount will be given to the extremely injured people and Rs.50,000 will be given to wounded people.
