The Muvattupuzha POCSO court remanded the child’s paternal brother in custody for two days on a custody application filed by the Puthen Kurish police. The custody period is until Monday.
The police will soon question both of them together to confirm that the child’s mother was aware of the rape. The mother is currently in the custody of the Chengamanadu police in the case of the child’s murder.
The investigation team has decided to complete the interrogation before the mother’s custody period expires. The accused had told the police that he had been abusing the child for about a year. The mother told the police that she was not aware of the abuse. However, the police did not fully believe this.
Immediately after the postmortem, the police questioned him at his home. The child had been a victim of abuse for 20 hours before she was killed. At that time, the accused, who was a male, was the only one present at the home. The police, becoming suspicious, put him under surveillance. After the child’s funeral, the accused was called to the police station and questioned before being taken into custody.
