
Thiruvananthapuram: Due to persistent heavy rainfall, district collectors have declared a holiday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, in the districts of Ernakulam, Thrissur, Kottayam, Idukki, Palakkad, Pathanamthitta, and Wayanad, as well as in the taluks of Nilambur, Kuttanad, Cherthala, and Iritty, today.
A low-pressure system has formed over the northwest Bay of Bengal and the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal, leading to forecasts of intensified rainfall in the coming days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The system is likely to move west-northwest towards northern Odisha, the Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh regions. The IMD has predicted isolated extremely heavy rainfall until June 29. Additionally, strong winds with speeds of 50 to 60 kmph are expected across Kerala today.
